Chapter 77
Chapter 77
Victor spoke through gritted teeth, each word dripping with ice. “The only person who would show up at the hut right now is the one trying to hurt us.
“We’ve never done anything to you, so why are you targeting us?” he demanded, his voice cold and direct.
Elianna’s eyes brimmed with tears as she blinked. “It wasn’t me. I swear I didn’t do anything.”
“I just saw someone else come in, so I followed him,” she insisted, sticking firmly to her story that she was only worried about a break–in.
There weren’t any cameras here. They had no proof she wasn’t just following a thief inside.
She dropped her eyes and let the tears flow. “I was just trying to help. Is this how I get repaid? Is doing the right thing always so thankless?” Her voice
shook with fake hurt.
Skylar walked to the doorway and plucked a small device from the eaves. “I forgot to mention. We set up a hidden mini camera to catch the culprit,” she
said.
Elianna’s face went ghostly pale. She bit the inside of her cheek, using the pain to suppress her panic.
Right in front of her, Skylar played back the footage.
The video clearly showed Elianna ransacking every corner of the thatched hut.
After seeing this, Elianna’s fans had no more excuses to make.
[Elianna, what were you thinking? How could you do something like this?]
[I can’t believe I was just defending you. You really let me down.]
[I’m done being a fan of someone this toxic. Unfollowing for good.]
[Weren’t you just accusing us of slandering your idol? Now with the evidence out, that’s a real slap in the face.]
[What’s gotten into her? Why is she targeting them like this?]
[She nearly got Caden killed this time. She can’t get away with this. Call the police and put her behind bars for a few years.]
Skylar calmly put away her phone and said, “The surveillance footage shows that no one else entered this hut except you.”
Elianna racked her brains for an excuse, but before she could think of anything, the sound of police sirens cut her off.
Her mind went blank. She stood rooted to the spot, unable to move.
Two uniformed officers walked in.
Skylar handed them the shirt. “Officers, here’s the evidence.”
One officer said, “We’ve received the video evidence. We need to take this shirt back for testing. Only if we confirm there’s a chemical substa could agitate wild boars can we file charges.
“For now, we’ll need you and Ms. Stone to come with us.”
Skylar nodded. “No problem.”
Victor grabbed her. “I’ll go with you.”
“You’re injured. It’s better if you stay here and wait for me,” Skylar said.

Victor pressed his lips together. “Call me if anything happens.”
Skylar nodded.
She and Elianna were escorted to the police station together for questioning.
The test results of the shirt still weren’t out, so Elianna was released and sent back.
As soon as she came out, she grabbed Skylar, her eyes fierce. “Why didn’t you just die in the mountains?
“If you had died out there, none of this would’ve happened. It’s all your fault. Everything is because of you.”
Losing control, she raised her hand to slap Skylar, but Skylar caught her wrist and, in one swift motion, slapped her hard across the face.
The sharp sound of a slap rang out.
Elianna was stunned, clutching her cheek in disbelief. “You dare hit me?”
“You nearly got me killed. One slap is letting you off easy,” Skylar shot back coldly.
Elianna, blinded by rage, her voice rising to a scream, spat, “Skylar, why didn’t you die five years ago like your bastard?”
“Bitch. Always trying to steal what’s mine,” she snarled. “I won’t let you get your way. I’ll make sure you die by my hand, just like your doomed son.”
Skylar’s gaze turned glacial. “So you’ve finally confessed, Elianna.”
