Chapter 60
“Skylar, you bitch.” she hissed through clenched teeth, muttering a string of curses under her breath.
On the other side, Skylar suddenly sneezed, and Adam instantly
Skylar chuckled, “I’m not sick. Just a bad guy gossiping about
“Who’s this bad guy?” Adam asked, looking puzzled. “Why’s she: dares to talk bad about you again.”
I alarmed. “Mom, are you sick?”
mean things about you, Mommy? Tell me. I’ll go teach her a lesson so she never
Skylar ruffled Adam’s hair and gathered him into her arms. “Sweetie, you don’t need to worry about all that grown–up stuff. Get some sleep. Sleep helps kids grow tall.”
“Okay then,” Adam said softly.
Skylar softly hummed a gentle lullaby as Adam nestled contentedly in her arms, his face radiating pure bliss as his eyelids grew heavy and slowly closed.
Skylar waited until Adam was sound asleep. Then she gently laid him down and tucked him in.
A few days ago, Adam came running to her room carrying his pillow and blanket, tears streaming down his face as he claimed he was too scared to sleep alone and begged to stay with her.
Skylar didn’t want to agree at first, but then he looked at her with those big, teary eyes full of pleading.
As if under a spell, she couldn’t help but nod in agreement.
Skylar pinched Adam’s cheek affectionately. “Where did you pick up this little rascal
act?”
Yosef was cold and aloof, always keeping everyone at arm’s length. Even after ten years, she still couldn’t melt that icy heart.
As for Elianna, it was not worth mentioning.
Skylar had no idea how Elianna managed to have such a sweet and adorable kid.
Skylar occasionally stroked Adam’s cheek, her eyes looking through him as if she were seeing the child who had died early.
Before she knew it, she had drifted off to sleep.
She dreamed of that child. He walked ahead, and she followed behind, but no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t reach him.
She called out, and the little figure finally stopped.
She gently grasped his shoulder and turned him around. To her surprise, the face staring back at her was none other than Adam, who was sleeping soundly beside her.
Skylar jolted awake, pressing a hand to her forehead. ‘Dreams really do mirror our thoughts,‘ she thought.
In the dead of night, with the sky still dark, Skylar found herself wide awake. After tucking Adam in, she quietly went downstairs and opened a bottle of
wine.
The child had been taken away immediately after birth. She never even got to catch one last glimpse of her baby.
Over the years, she would dream of the child from time to time, but could never quite make out its face in those dreams.
For the first time today, she finally saw his face clearly.
‘What a pity, Skylar thought. ‘Adam isn’t mine. He’s Yosef and Elianna’s son.‘

Chapter 60
Skylar kept pouring herself drink after drink, yet the more she drank, the sharper her mind became.
As dawn broke, Skylar returned to her room, got ready for the day, and then gently woke Adam so they could go downstairs for breakfast together
“Mommy, you have dark circles under your eyes,” Adam said worriedly. “Didn’t you sleep well last night?
“Did I bother you, Mommy? Maybe I should go back and sleep in my own room.”
Though he really wanted to keep sleeping with Skylar, Adam cared more about her getting proper rest.
“It’s not about you,” Skylar said with a soft smile.
Adam pressed his lips together, carefully cutting the egg on his plate and spreading jam on the toast. Then he pushed the prepared food toward Skylar and said sweetly, “Here, Mommy.”
spre art.
Watching how well–behaved Adam was, Skylar felt an inexplicable pang in her heart.
“Thank you, Adam,” she said softly, her voice gentle.
Adam gave a sweet, squinty smile. “You’re welcome.”
Yana gazed at the thoughtful Adam, feeling a pang of envy. “What a good boy you are, Adam. Your parents are truly blessed.”
