Chapter 45
“Someone like you is not suitable to work for the Lambert family. Go collect your wages. You’re dismissed–effective immediately.
“1-1 was only following the orders of the family… I didn’t do anything wrong. paycheck.
You can’t just fire me!” the maid cried, unwilling to give up her generous
“You just came back from who knows where. Ms. Freya grew up beside Sir and Madam. They clearly favor her more than you.”
The maid had always looked down on this “sudden new daughter” whared
of
nowhere.
To her, ever since Ms. Skylar came back, Ms. Freya had been miserable every day. The maid felt sorry for her.

She still remembered how, when she had first started working for the Lamberts, she’d accidentally broken a vase and had been so scared she sat on the floor sobbing. It was Freya who’d helped her escape punishment. She’d always been grateful for that.
In her heart, there was only one true Ms. Lambert–and that was Freya.
“Pack her things and send her off,” Skylar ordered coldly.
The maid turned pale, shooting her a glare through clenched teeth.
Skylar delivered her final warning. “If any of you want to stay in this house, you’d better keep your heads on straight. Understand?”
No one dared to breathe too loud. A chorus of submissive “Yes, Miss” echoed through the room.
The commotion naturally drew attention. Carlos and Yana had just returned from outside when the butler informed them of the situation.
Yana, convinced her daughter had done nothing wrong, scoffed. “That maid made a mistake–she should be held accountable. End of story.”
“Where’s Skylar?” Carlos asked.
“Ms. Skylar went back to her room and hasn’t come out since,” the butler replied.
“And Adam?”
“No sign of Mr. Adam either,” The butler added dutifully, “Ms. Freya has gone out.”
Yana nodded and headed upstairs to find Skylar.
She opened the door quietly—and there they were. Skylar lay beside Adam’s bed, both sound asleep, breathing gently.
Yana, concerned her daughter might get cold, picked up the remote and
turned on the air conditioner.
The soft hum of the machine stirred Skylar. She blinked awake instantly–ever a light sleeper.
“Mom? What are you doing here?” Skylar rubbed her eyes.
“The butler said you two were in the room. I came to check on you,” replied Yana. “How long has Adam been asleep? It’s already late. Will he be able to sleep tonight?”
Skylar reached out and gently touched Adam’s forehead. “He had a flare–up earlier. Fever hit, and he got completely disoriented. It took a while to calm
him down.”
Yana’s heart twisted. “He had an attack? Just like that? What happened?”
Skylar shook her head. “I don’t know yet. We’ll have to wait until he wakes up and ask him.”

She had a pretty good guess it was Freya’s doing–but with no evidence, even if she said it out loud, no one would believe her Belte to wait. Let Ada speak for himself.
“My poor little sweetheart,” Yana murmured, her voice tender with affection. “I’ll go tell the kitchen to prepare something light. When he wakes up; he can have a little soup to regain his strength.”
Skylar nodded.
Not long after Yana left, Adam began to stir.
His eyelids fluttered open, and he looked around the unfamiliar–but oddly familiar–room. “Why does heaven look just like Mommy’s room?”
“This isn’t heaven.” Skylar’s heart finally eased, his innocent remark breaking the tension. “You’re in my room.”
“Mommy… “Adam stared at her for a moment before throwing his arms around her and breaking into soft sobs. “I almost didn’t get to see you again… That mean auntie… she was so bad…”
“She hit me, and when I bit her, she pushed me down. It hurt so bad, and then she just left… she didn’t even care…
He spilled his heart out, one word tumbling after another like beans from a tipped jar.
Skylar clenched her teeth as she listened to Adam, her eyes turned cold and dark.
