Chapter 40
“It’s nothing. Just rest well. I’ll come see you again tomorrow,” Skylar said hurriedly, eager to get back and talk to her lawyer.
“Mommy, can you take me with you?” Adam looked at her with teary eyes. “Please, I’m begging you”
Skylar couldn’t resist his pleading look and awkwardly avoided his gaze. “You’ll have to ask your
dad if he’ll allow it. If he agrees, I’ll take you home.
Yosef pondered. Having Adam with Skylar meant two things: one, he could receive prompt treatment if he had an episode, and two, he could keep an eye on her and stay informed of her whereabouts.
To him, that was a win–win situation.
Yosef’s eyes flickered. He didn’t stop them. “If you want to go, just go. I’ll trouble Ms. Lambert to look after Adam.”
Skylar hadn’t expected Yosef to agree so readily–she was momentarily at a loss for words.
“Mommy, you said if Daddy agreed, you’d take me home,” Adam said, holding his little head high and blinking his clear, bright eyes.
“Don’t worry, I keep my word.” Skylar didn’t refuse. She liked Adam, too.
Besides, having him around would make it easier for her to monitor his health and catch any signs of trouble early.
Since she’d agreed to this, she would do it properly. After all, Yosef had paid a hefty sum–she had to deliver. She didn’t want him coming after her later.
“I’ll have Adam’s things sent over,” said Yosef.
Skylar nodded. “There’s no need to send too much, Mr. Campbell. If anything’s missing, I can just take him shopping.”
Yosef pulled out his wallet and handed her a black card. “Use this.”
Outside, Elianna’s eyes lit up the moment she saw the card.
It was one of only three limited–edition black cards in the world. With no spending limit, it wasn’t just a card–it was a symbol of status.
Two of the cards were with the Lambert family. The third was with Yosef.
She had always wanted that card, but he had never once offered it to her.
And now, right in front of her, he handed it straight to Skylar. To her, wasn’t that a slap in the face?
Jealousy surged through Elianna like wildfire. She couldn’t hold back. Completely losing her composure, she lung the door open and walked in.
Yosef was still holding out the card, his face darkening. “Didn’t you leave?”
“If I had, I wouldn’t have caught this little scene,” Elianna said with a biting tone. “Yosef, isn’t it a bit inappropriate to give that black card to her?”
“And why would it be inappropriate?” His tone carried a hint of anger. “It’s my card. I give it to whoever I want.”
Elianna’s eyes welled up. “You can’t give it to her.“/
Skylar hadn’t planned on accepting it. But with Elianna making such a fuss, even glaring at her with such resentment, she could no longer refuse to enjoy
the drama.
“Well, thank you, Mr. Campbell,” she said, accepting the card.
Elianna lunged to grab it, but Skylar swiftly dodged and tucked it into her pocket.

Chapter 40
Ms. Stone, this card isn’t yours. It has nothing to do with you. You don’t get to decide what happens to it.”
Elianna was seething with rage. She wanted nothing more than to scratch that seductive face of Skylar’s.
“What do you think you’re doing, Elianna?” Yosef snappo
Elianna snapped back to reality. “Yosef, this card is too important. If you give it to her so publicly, people might start gossiping–it’ll be bad for her reputation.”
“It’s for Adam,” Yosef reminded. “He’s too young to carry it himself so
Elianna forced a stiff smile. “Ah, I see…
I’m giving it to Skylar.”
