Preferring to forgo a meal rather than risk intimate contact with Yosef, she ultimately chose to stop eating.
Skylar said, “I’m full.”
Adam pouted and asked, “Mommy, you’ve only had a few bites, and you’re already full?”
Adam thought, ‘That’s definitely not Mommy’s normal appetite. She’s not sick… Is she trying to lose weight?”
Adam gave his mom a thorough once–over. ‘Mommy’s already so lean, why would she want to go on a diet?”
With a maturity unexpected for his age, he said, “You don’t need to lose weight, Mommy. You’re already so skinny, one gust of wind could blow you away.”
“Sweetie, I’m really full,” Skylar said.
Adam hopped off the stool and patted Skylar’s tummy. “Mommy, your tummy isn’t big yet–that means it’s not full!”
Skylar sighed helplessly. Under Adam’s earnest gaze, she finally picked up her fork and began to eat.
Yosef’s lips curved into a faint smile.
Meanwhile, down at the building entrance, Jamar turned to look back, his eyes dark and vengeful.
“You tossed me aside today like I was nothing. Just wait–one day, I’ll be so far out of your reach,” he murmured.
Jamar hailed a cab, slid into the back seat, and scrolled through his contacts before making a call.
“I’d love to go to that party. Could you help connect me?”
Clutching his phone, its screen now dark, Jamar smirked in smug triumph.
After the meal, Yosef and Adam did not rush to leave.
Yosef mulled over how to tactfully ask Skylar if what Jamar had said was true.
Adam noticed something was off with Yosef and whispered, “Daddy, why do you keep staring at Mommy?”
Yosef fixed his gaze on Adam, and suddenly, an idea popped into his mind.
Yosef said, “Adam, could you help Daddy with something?”
Adam eagerly agreed, “Tell me, Daddy! I promise I’ll help you!”
“Do you remember that guy we bumped into just now?” Yosef asked.
Adam nodded. “Yeah, I remember. Why do you ask?”
Yosef said, “That man says that there’s someone new in Mommy’s life, and that she might leave us.”
“No way!” Adam shouted in protest. “Mommy would never do that!”
Absorbed in her work, Skylar paused when she heard Adam’s unusually loud call. “What’s the matter, Adam?” she asked gently.
Adam wriggled out of Yosef’s arms and ran to Skylar, eyes wide and full of grievance. “Mommy, someone said you have a new boyfriend and you’re gonna leave me and Daddy! Is that true?”

Chapter 315
Tears welled up in Adam’s eyes, ready to spill the moment Skylar said “yes.”
Skylar frowned slightly and asked, “Who told you that?”
Work had consumed her for days; starting a new relationship was the last thing, she was thinking about.
‘Who’s spreading rumors about me behind my back?‘ Skylar thought.
“We just got here, and a guy came out of your office. We ran right into him, and he stopped us to say all that stuff,” Adam said.
At that time, the only person who had left her office was Jamar.
Skylar gently cupped Adam’s cheeks and murmured, “That’s just nonsense. Mommy would never leave you.”
“I believe you, Mommy!” Adam giggled, wrapping his arms around Skylar in a tight hug.
Adam raised his head to look at Skylar. Still fuming, he blurted out, “That guy is the worst!”
“Don’t waste your energy on people like that, sweetheart. No need to be upset,” Skylar said.
She spent a while reassuring Adam. Once Adam’s emotions were in check, he understood Skylar had things to do and quietly stepped away.
Adam ran back to Yosef and told Yosef everything he had just found out. “Mommy said she doesn’t have a new boyfriend. That man was lying to us!”
The office was tiny, and since Skylar did not even bother to lower her voice, Yosef heard everything clearly.
Feeling pleased, Yosef gently squeezed Adam’s fingers and murmured, “Mm–hmm, I know.”
