Chapter 303
Skylar sighed inwardly and reached out to gently stroke Adam’s head.
The next day, Skylar repeated her routine, making up an excuse to send Adam and Hudson away so she could stay behind in the ward and perform acupuncture to detoxify Yosef.
After spitting out a mouthful of dark, tainted blood, Yosef slowly opened his eyes and murmured weakly, “Skylar..”
Skylar pressed a finger to her lips. “Quiet,” she whispered.
She glanced toward the door, making sure no one was peering through it, then leaned in close and lowered her voice. “There’s something important! need to tell you,” she murmured.
Yosef responded with a faint “Mm,” his voice barely audible.
Skylar leaned in closer and whispered her plan to Yosef. “What do you think?” she asked, searching his eyes.
“Skylar, your plan is well–thought–out. I’ll follow your lead,” Yosef said, his eyes brimming with tenderness.
Skylar looked at Yosef and said firmly, “Since you don’t object, let’s proceed as planned.”
Yosef’s smoldering gaze never left Skylar. Without blinking, he murmured, “Alright.”
Skylar could feel Yosef’s gaze and instinctively turned slightly away. She pulled out a handkerchief and offered it to him. “Here, wipe your mouth.”
Yosef had just coughed up blood, with dark purple traces still lingering at the corners of his lips.
He took the handkerchief and gently dabbed at his mouth. “Thanks, Skylar,” he murmured.
Skylar said, “Get some rest. I’ll go through the motions with the doctors–see what they’re saying.”
Yosef murmured, “Mm.”
He clutched the handkerchief, lingering over the warmth Skylar had left behind.
The nurse Zachary had bribed kept feeding him updates on Yosef’s condition. “Mr. Campbell still hasn’t woken up today, and the specialist team hasn’t made any progress at all.”
Zachary sneered, “I went to great lengths to get that poison. There’s no way he can detoxify it. In a few more days, once he can’t hold on any longer, he’ll just die in his sleep. And then, the Campbell family will be as good as mine and Aaron’s.” Zachary wore a triumphant smirk on his face.
Several days passed, but there was still no news of Yosef running into any trouble.
He couldn’t help but wonder, “Didn’t they say no one could detoxify him? So why hasn’t he kicked the bucket yet?”
The nurse looked a bit helpless as she explained, “Well… I don’t really know the specifics. I’m not in charge of Mr. Campbell’s ward; I can only pick up bits and pieces from the nurses who are.”
Zachary scoffed, “Useless trash.”
The nurse pressed her lips together, visibly annoyed. “If you think I’m useless, why don’t you go find out for yourself?” She turned on her heel and stormed out.
Zachary fumed, clenching his fists. “You bitch! Took my money, couldn’t even do the job right, and now you dare give me attitude?”
He swore to himself, “Just wait till I’m back on my feet–you’ll be the first one I take care of.”

Zachary made up his mind. Dressed in a male nurse’s uniform, he shipped past the bodyguards at the door under the pretense of administering medication, infiltrating Yosef’s hospital room.
Yosef lay motionless on the hospital bed, looking for all the world as if he were sound asleep.
Just as Zachary stepped into the ward, he noticed Yosef’s eyelids fluttering slightly, as if he were about to wake up
