An unfamiliar warmth surged through Skylar’s chest, leaving no room for anything else, which felt surprisingly strange. Skylar cleared her throat and said, “I’m ready. Let’s go.”
Adam bounded over, took Skylar’s hand, and exclaimed, “Let’s go out for dinner!”
After dinner, the family of three chose not to return to the hotel right away. Instead, they enjoyed a leisurely walk along the nearby riverside, their figures gradually disappearing into the distance. Once they finished their stroll, they returned to the hotel to freshen up and go to bed.
Yosef pretended to forget his clothes and sauntered out, casually wrapped in just a towel. Skylar’s cheeks flushed as she took in Yosef’s toned physique. Quickly, she raised her phone to shield her eyes, trying her best to avoid peeking.
What on earth is Yosef doing?‘ Skylar thought, her cheeks flushed. ‘There are other people in the room! How could he walk out practically naked without considering how I would feel?‘ Skylar simmered with frustration.
Yosef did it deliberately. He cast a seemingly casual glance at Skylar and saw her hiding her blushing face behind her phone, too embarrassed to meet his gaze. A knowing smirk curled at the corners of his lips.
‘So, Skylar isn’t as indifferent to me as I initially thought. I guess my charms could be an effective strategy,’ Yosef mused with quiet satisfaction as he got dressed, committing this tactic to memory.
They had finished washing up and were now settled in bed. Perhaps due to a long afternoon nap, Adam displayed no signs of sleepiness; instead, he lay in bed with his eyes wide open. He curled up in Yosef’s lap, snuggling close and eagerly asking for a story. With a smile, Yosef pulled up a children’s storybook on his phone and began to read aloud.
Skylar found herself listening intently, enjoying the story alongside the others. She thought, ‘I have to admit, Yosef’s voice is incredibly soothing–almost hypnotic. Before she realized it, her eyes had drifted shut, and she fell asleep without noticing when.
Adam, feeling sleepy, murmured, “Daddy, I want to sleep already.”
Yosef gently placed Adam on the bed. Adam wriggled into Skyla’s arms, then patted the space beside him and called out, “Daddy, sleep with us!” With that, Adam closed his eyes and fell asleep, not even waiting to see if Yosef would join him.
Yosef carefully lifted Adam and set him down to the side. Sensing someone nearby, Skylar instinctively turned away in her sleep. With that single movement, she unconsciously nestled right into Yosef’s arms.
Yosef wrapped his arms around her contentedly and fell into a tranquil sleep, holding her close. Skylar awoke to discover herself in Yosef’s embrace, with no barrier between them.
Skylar found herself wondering again, ‘Am I really such a restless sleeper? Where on earth did I even push Adam to?‘ Sleepily, she groped around for Adam, only to have her hand land on the firm, warm expanse of Yosef’s bare chest.
“Skylar,” Yosef’s voice was husky with sleep, “your early morning groping is pushing my limits.”
“I didn’t mean it!” Skylar exclaimed, pulling her hand back in alarm. “How did I end up next to you? Where’s Adam?”
“Last night, Adam kept complaining about wanting to sleep on the edge, so I placed him next to you,” Yosef said. Skylar reached across the bed, her fingers brushing against a small, warm body. She let out a soft sigh of relief.
Yosef playfully asked, “Skylar, aren’t you going to make this up to me?”
“What?” Skylar asked, feeling completely confused. ‘I didn’t do anything just now, did I? How did this suddenly turn into me having to take responsibility?‘ she thought.
Yosef wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer with a playful grin. “After getting so touchy–feely with me, are you really not going to take responsibility?”
