Chapter 262
They located their hotel room and unpacked their luggage. Adam felt genuinely exhausted. It was his first trip away from home, and he had been so excited the entire journey that he hardly slept on the plane. Now that the excitement had diminished, only overwhelming tiredness remained.
Adam yawned widely. “Mommy, let’s go to sleep,” he said, his voice filled with sleepy longing. He just wanted to snuggle up close to Skylar. inhaling her comforting scent, which always made him feel safe.
Skylar cradled Adam in her arms and gently kissed his forehead. “Alright, sweetie, Mommy will sleep with you,” she whispered affectionately
“Daddy, you must be tired too. Why don’t you come and sleep with us?” Adam had never shared a bed with both his mom and dad at the same time before, and he was curious about what that experience would be like.
Yosef wanted to join, but he was concerned that Skylar might not feel comfortable with it. After a brief hesitation, he declined Adam’s invitation. “Not tonight. Daddy still has work to do. You go ahead and sleep with Mommy, okay?”
Adam hung his head in disappointment. “Daddy’s always like this. He thinks work is more important than us,” he complained. Adam’s face
scrunched up into a pout, his big, round eyes turning red and watery.
Skylar couldn’t stand to see Adam so upset; her heart ached for him. ‘I want to make him happy, but that means sharing a bed with Yosef, she thought, feeling conflicted.
The mere thought of it made her uneasy; it would not only remind her of that uncomfortable incident from last time but also leave her feeling deeply unsettled. These conflicting thoughts weighed heavily on her mind,
Adam pressed his lips together tightly and quietly wiped away his tears with the back of his hand. Skylar felt her defenses melt away. She pursed her lips and softly said, “You must be tired after traveling all day. Come to bed with us.”
Yosef hesitated, “But you said…”
Skylar quickly added, “The couch is too small for you anyway. And Adam wants you to be with him.”
Yosef met Adam’s slightly teary eyes and sighed. ‘He never used to be this clingy. Ever since he started living with Skylar, he has become more compassionate. Boys shouldn’t be spoiled, or it could lead to problems later,‘ Yosef thought.
He noted that he needed to discuss changing their approach to raising Adam with Skylar. However, when Adam looked up at him with those bright, pleading eyes, Yosef felt his resolve softened. “Alright, I’ll stay with you,” he agreed,
Adam’s face instantly lit up as his mood changed completely. “Yay! I finally got to sleep with both Mommy and Daddy tonight!” he exclaimed, unable to contain his excitement.
Skylar gently stroked Adam’s head. ‘After all, kids will always need their father,’ she reflected. ‘Yosef may not be a good husband, but he is undeniably a good father; otherwise, Adam wouldn’t miss him so much.‘
She had considered moving abroad with Adam and cutting allies with Yosef, but now she realized that it was impossible. However, if she stayed at this rate, she was bound to get entangled with Yosef again.
She sighed. ‘Whatever the future holds can wait. For now, what matters most is taking care of the present,‘ she thought.
Adam got out of bed, opened his small suitcase, retrieved his pajamas, changed out of his clothes, and put them on. Adam sweetly said, “Mommy, why don’t you change into your pajamas too? Then we can all go to bed together.”
