Chapter 240
Neither Skylar nor all the hospital doctors could identify the cause, and they had no idea how Freya managed it,
Skylar was sure she’d come across a similar case before, but the memory kept eluding her.
Skylar decided to review her mentor’s notes again, thinking, ‘Maybe there’s a clue I missed before…
Freya was mysteriously hospitalized, and her framing of Skylar was simply left unresolved.
Skylar remained unbothered, but her parents were overwhelmed with guilt toward her.
Yana let out a long sigh, holding Skylar’s hand and giving it a gentle pat. She said softly, “Skylar, I’m sorry you had to go through all this
Skylar shook her head gently and said, “Don’t worry, Mom. With
before aside for now.”
Freya like this, none of us are feeling great right now. Let’s just put what happened
“You’re such a good girl,” Yana said softly, gently brushing Skylar’s hair. “But you know, when good kids can put up with things, there always seems to be more waiting for them. Honestly, Mom sometimes wishes you could be a little more selfish, just for your own sake.”
Every mother’s wish was to see her child live happily and healthily. But in such a complicated world, no one could truly find happiness.
Noticing her mother was in low spirits, Skylar gently suggested, “Mom, let’s take a walk in the garden together.”
Skylar deliberately reduced her workload to spend more time at home with Adam and her parents, hoping to help them recover from their sadness more quickly.
Victor returned home to find that Freya had once again tried to frame Skylar, but this time, she mysteriously fell ill and ended up in the hospital herself.
Victor couldn’t shake off the feeling that all this was just too convenient.
He thought, ‘How could she just fall mysteriously ill at such perfect timing?
‘How could they still not find the cause? With medical science so advanced these days, what kind of illness could possibly
evade diagnosis?
‘Then it must be a terminal illness.‘
The words “terminal illness” flashed through Victor’s mind, stirring up a whirlwind of conflicting emotions and leaving a bitter taste in his heart.
Victor thought to himself, ‘When someone’s dying, does it even matter what they’ve done before?‘
But then Victor felt guilty toward Skylar since she was the real victim.
Victor hesitated, his lips quivering slightly. In a soft, uncertain voice, he called out, “Skylar, you…”
Skylar raised her hand to interrupt him, then gave him a gentle smile. “Victor, I’m fine. You don’t have to feel guilty about this.
“I know what’s right to do, and when to act.”
Victor sighed and said, “Skylar, if only Freya had half your generosity and maturity, maybe she wouldn’t have ended up in this mess.”
“Victor, what’s done is done. There’s no point dwelling on it now.”
Victor simply nodded in response.
The two siblings sat in silence for quite some time until Skylar finally changed the subject. They chatted for a while until Adam came over, prompting Skylar to go play with him.
Chapter 240
Skylar was building blocks with Adam when the phone in her pocket buzzed.
Skylar pulled out her phone and tapped the email notification.
Skylar received an official invitation from the Medical Association, inviting her to a medical symposium in three days.
They had invited her before, but she had always declined due to scheduling conflicts.
She thought, ‘Maybe this year I’ll go see what this so–called Medical Association is all about!
‘Maybe I can use this opportunity to ask some of the senior doctors about Freya’s case.‘
Skylar emailed back, confirming her attendance.
The organizer had assumed this year would repeat past failures. To his astonishment, a reply confirmed Sue’s participation in this year’s event.
