Chapter 239
Freya was already cornered, yet she still tried to drag Skylar down with her. Carlos’s gaze grew even colder. “Even now, you’re still stubbornly refusing love admit your mistakes. Freya, I’m truly disappointed in you,” he said.
Carlos called his secretary and instructed, “Book a flight for Freya and accompany her overseas. Keep an eye on her and assist with her daily neede
Carlos still couldn’t bring himself to let her go. After all, he’d devoted y
s of genuine care, and every bit of affection he’d given Freya was real
There was no turning back. Completely out of options and desperate, Freyas were right there in her purse.
“Please don’t make me go, Dad,” Freya pleaded, tears streaming down
a suddenly remembered the pills she’d asked someone to buy for her they
face. “I can’t bear to leave my home or be separated from you and Mom.
She said with feigned resignation while rising to her feet, “Fine then. If that’s how it must be, I’ll leave the Lambert family myself.” She grabbed her bag and, shielding her movements with her body, discreetly retrieved the pills hidden inside.
These were the things Freya had set aside in case her faked illness
ever exposed. She just never thought she’d need them this soon.
With a clenched jaw, Freya swallowed the pills. The moment they touched her tongue, dizziness overwhelmed her. Her eyes closed, and she collapsed limply to the floor, unconscious.
Freya…” Carlos was the first to rush over. He knelt down, cradling Freya’s upper body, his brow furrowed with worry.“Freya, what’s wrong? It’s Dad, can you hear me?”
He called out urgently, “Skylar, come quick! Check on your sister. How could she suddenly collapse like this?”
Skylar stepped forward and checked Freya’s pulse, finding nothing unusual. “She’s fine.”
Carlos frowned deeply. “Fine? How could she possibly be fine after collapsing like that?”
Brada snorted disdainfully. “She’s probably just faking it to dodge responsibility.”
The scene was still vivid in Carlos’s mind. As he realized Freya might have faked i
void responsibility, his expression darkened.
‘At my age, am I really going to let my adopted daughter lead me around by the nose?‘ he thought bitterly.
Carlos set Freya down on the floor, the warmth in his eyes fading into icy indifference.
Skylar pulled out an acupuncture needle. “If she’s faking, we’ll soon find out,” she said coolly.
The needle pierced Freya’s skin, yet she showed not the slightest reaction.
Even when the needle was pushed in deeper, Freya remained completely unresponsive.
Skylar kept a close watch on Freya’s micro–expressions/‘No one can fully hide their reaction to pain,‘ she thought.
Still, she couldn’t tell whether Freya was faking it or suffering from some undiagnosable condition.
“Get her to the hospital,” Skylar said tersely.
An ambulance rushed Freya to the hospital, and the entire group relocated from the living room to the hospital’s VIP suite.
Carlos anxiously asked, “Doctor, what’s wrong with my daughter?”
“Your daughter is critically weak for unknown reasons. Any later and we might have lost her,” the doctor said.
Carlos hadn’t expected things to be this serious. Unease crept into his voice as he asked the doctor, “Is there any treatment available for her?”

The doctor hesitated. “If we can identify the cause, there might still be a chance of recovery.
“But whether we’ll actually be able to pinpoint it… that’s hard to say.”
Carlos sighed heavily. “She was perfectly fine just moments ago, how could she suddenly end up like this?”
“Who knows?” Yana sighed regretfully.
She’d felt a chill when she realized how calculating Freya had been toward Skylar. But now, seeing Freya in this state, all her previous resentment melted
away.
Yana gently took her husband Carlos’s arm and reassured him softly, “Chestbee Hospital has top specialists. They’ll surely identify the root cause and help Freya recover.”
“Let’s hope so,” Carlos murmured with a tired sigh.
Skylar stood by the bedside, her expression unreadable as she gazed at Freya. Inside, her thoughts were churning
‘Freya’s sudden illness… the timing is far too suspicious,‘ Skylar thought.
