Chapter 232
“You’re lying!” Chris snapped, jabbing a finger at the person on the bed. “He’s been out cold for a full day, and you still claim you did nothing? You heartless woman!”
He spat through gritted teeth, his face contorted with rage. “After all he’s done for you, how could you do this to him?”
“Calm down,” Skylar said coolly, “unless you want something to happen to Brada.”
The words struck a nerve. Chris clenched his jaw.
With the agitated Chris finally under control, Skylar calmly produced her medical license and held it up for him to see.
Chris glanced at the license in her hand. “You’re a doctor?”
Skylar nodded firmly. “My medical expertise is unquestionable, and the treatment I administered couldn’t possibly have caused him any harm. As for why he’s in this state, we need to investigate thoroughly.”
Skylar said methodically, “Let’s analyze this. Did you notice anyone entering this ward after I left yesterday?”
Chris recalled slowly, “After yoù left, I went back to the ward but didn’t see anyone there.”
Chris recalled, “I thought Mr. Fleur had just fallen asleep. Who would’ve thought he’d end up sleeping for over a full day?”
Chris frowned, anxiety creeping in. “Something felt off. I tried to rouse him, but no matter what I did, he showed no response at all.”
Skylar pressed, “Are you absolutely certain no one came in during that time?”
Chris gave a firm nod. “I’m positive.”
“When exactly did you return to the ward?” Skylar asked, mentally calculating how long she’d been away.
Chris replied, “I probably came back about ten minutes after you left.”
“So, in other words, during those ten–plus minutes, you had no idea whether anyone entered this room.”
Chris’s eyes widened as realization struck him. “So you’re saying that while I was away, someone deliberately targeted Mr. Fleur and tried to frame you?”
“Exactly,” Skylar nodded slightly.
Chris, still unconvinced, pressed on, “Then how do I know you’re not just trying to shift the blame and manipulate me, Skylar?”
Skylar chuckled lightly. “If I really wanted to hurt him, do you think I’d be this obvious about it?”
Chris was torn apart inside.
He and Brada were strangers here, with no one to turn to for help.
After what just happened, Chris couldn’t bring himself to trust anyone anymore.
Seeing his hesitation, Skylar met his gaze and said firmly, “Trust me, I would never hurt him.
“Let me examine what’s wrong with Brada first. You handle the police when they arrive, and then we’ll work together to smoke out

the culprit.
Chris pressed his lips together, wrestling with the decision for a long moment before finally nodding. “I really hope I’m not making
a mistake by trusting you this time, Ms. Lambert.”
Skylar gave a reassuring nod. “Of course.”
The two reached an agreement.
Skylar pulled up a chair and checked on Brada’s condition.
Chris remained outside, stalling the police who had come to make an arrest.
After explaining over and over, Chris finally convinced the officers there was nothing wrong and got them to leave.
Returning to the ward, Chris saw Skylar wearing a grave expression. He blurted out anxiously, “Ms. Lambert, what’s wrong with Mr.. Fleur?”
After carefully confirming she hadn’t misread his reports, Skylar gently returned his hand to its place. “The reason he’s unconscious is that someone poisoned him,” she declared.
Chris was utterly shocked. “Poisoned? How is that possible? We’ve just arrived here. Who could be so vicious as to target us?”
Chris couldn’t believe they could be treated this way when they’d done nothing wrong.
Skylar said calmly, “Maybe you weren’t the actual targets.”
Though Skylar hadn’t finished her sentence, Chris instantly grasped her meaning. Eyes wide in shock, he blurted out, “Wait, are you saying someone poisoned Mr. Fleur because of you?”
Skylar lowered her gaze. “I will make this right for you, I promise.”
