Chapter 231
Chapter 231
Lying in bed, je kept going over what he’d said that upset Adam, again and again. Honestly, he really couldn’t find a single harsh word in there.
‘What did I say that made Adam so upset? I just don’t get it,‘ Brada thought, feeling more and more lost.
‘I’ve racked my brains, but still no clue,‘ Brada thought helplessly.
‘Ah, forget it. I’ll just ask directly when the time comes,‘ Brada thought.
Having let go of his worries, Brada slowly closed his eyes.
As he drifted into sleep, he faintly sensed the door opening and someone coming in.
She took his hand, murmuring something indistinct.
A piercing pain struck, then total darkness swallowed Brada.
After wandering around outside for a while, Chris ambled back to the room.
Back in the ward, Chris found Brada lying motionless on the bed.
Chris frowned in confusion. ‘Didn’t he just tell me to come back later so he could pack up for his discharge? Why is he still asleep?”
He also noticed that Brada’s complexion wasn’t its usual healthy pallor, but had taken on a faint, sickly grayish hue.
A sudden, inexplicable panic gripped Chris’s heart.
He shouted frantically, calling the doctors into the room. “Doctor! Examine him now! What’s happening to him?”
The doctor replied, “We’ve just run a thorough check–up on him, everything came back normal. He’s in perfect health.”
Chris was frantic with worry, his nerves on edge. “Run the tests on him again!” he demanded.
Seeing Chris’s stern expression and fearing he might cause trouble, the doctor reluctantly agreed to examine Brada again.
Brada’s test results still showed nothing out of the ordinary.
Chris shot the doctor a sharp look. “No problem? We’re shouting right next to him and he doesn’t even flinch, how is that normal?”
The doctor sensed something was amiss, yet the test results showed no abnormalities.
“Get every doctor here now! Spare no expense, find out what’s wrong with Mr. Fleur!”
Teams of specialists convened, urgently investigating what exactly had happened to Brada.
Outside the hospital room, Chris leaned his head back against the wall, staring blankly at the ceiling in despair.
Just then, a couple stood nearby arguing. “I told you not to mess with random acupuncture! Now look what happened, your leg’s
ruined!”
The woman didn’t let up, her voice rising. “Look what happened to my leg, all because of you! I did it for you. You owe me, and you’d better make it right.”

The man snapped Impatiently, “Shut up! Just drop it!”
In the end, they parted in anger.
One line from their argument kept echoing in Chris’s mind.
Improper acupuncture could cause adverse physical reactions.
He thought, ‘So that’s why Brada, who was perfectly healthy before, started showing these symptoms after Skylar’s acupuncture.
‘She must have tampered with the needles.
‘That has to be it.‘
Chris now harbored deep suspicions toward Skylar. He consulted a doctor to find out whether acupuncture could cause unpredictable physical symptoms.
The doctor warned, “There are numerous acupoints throughout the human body. Improper acupuncture can cause serious complications.”
After everything that had happened, Chris was now certain beyond a doubt that Skylar was the one responsible for what had happened to Brada.
Chris called the police.
Carrying a bouquet of flowers and a fruit basket, Skylar came to pick up Brada.
Just before entering the ward, Skylar paused at the doorway, suddenly gripped by a pang of unease. ‘Why do I have this bad feeling, like something’s about to happen?‘ she wondered.
Skylar knocked on the door. “It’s Skylar,” she announced.
Chris sprang up from the stool and flung open the door. “Ms. Lambert, perfect timing. I need to ask you something.”
Skylar set down the bouquet and fruit basket. “What is it?” she asked.
Chris fixed Skylar with a sharp stare. “Did you tamper with the needles?” he demanded.
“Absolutely not,” Skylar blurted out without hesitation.
Chris moved closer menacingly and demanded, “Did you deliberately use those needles? Were you trying to destroy Mr. Fleur?”
Skylar’s brows knitted sharply, but she kept her voice steady as she explained, “I admit I used the needles deliberately to tease Brada, but I never meant to hurt him. What possible reason would I have to harm him?
