Putting on his most pitiful face, Brada suppressed his inner glee and whined, “Skylar, I’m really hurting all over. After he threw me down just now, I swear my injuries got even worse.”
Brada looked at Skylar with big, pleading eyes and said, “Since he won’t carry me, I’ll have to hobble along by myself. Without even a crutch here, I’m afraid I won’t make it. Skylar, could you lend me your arm?”
Right after Brada finished speaking, Yosef pulled out his phone and, right in front of him, called an ambulance. “We’ve got a patient here who suffered a serious fall, it’s urgent. Please send an ambulance to the mountain near Wish Church as
soon as possible.
“We’re midway up the mountain. Got it.”
Skylar shrugged and said, “I’m not strong enough to help you up. Let’s just wait here for the ambulance, okay?”
Brada’s plan was foiled. He shot Yosef a furious glare, fuming inside.
He thought, ‘Damn that man! Why’d he have to call an ambulance? Now I’ve lost this perfect chance to get closer to
Skylar.‘
The ambulance pulled up in no time.
They carefully helped Brada onto the stretcher. After making sure he was properly positioned, they carried him downhill.
Upon receiving news of Brada’s injury, his assistant promptly made all the necessary arrangements.
Brada was immediately admitted to the VIP ward at Chestbee Hospital.
After a thorough round of tests, it turned out Brada had no serious injuries. The only issue, which was a dislocated ankle, had already been treated long before.
Brada let out a long sigh in the hospital room, lamenting to himself, “Why hasn’t Skylar come to see me yet? Has she forgotten about me? Or is she with that guy instead?”
Brada tossed and turned in bed, fear gnawing at him the more he thought about it. “What if Skylar’s forgotten about me? What if she’s with someone else right now?” he fretted. Unable to take it anymore, he grabbed his assistant and blurted out, “Tell me, how can I make sure Skylar’s attention is all on me?”
Chris Woodward pondered for a moment, then suggested in a hushed tone, “Maybe you could try this…”
Brada’s curiosity was piqued. “What?”
“Walls have ears, sir. Come closer.”
Brada leaned in so close to Chris that their heads were practically touching.
He then said, “Alright then, let’s give your idea a shot first.”
Chapter 227
After receiving the assistant’s message, Skylar took her time finishing her work and settling all pending matters before finally heading off to visit Brada.
When Skylar arrived, she found Brada lying in bed, his face ghostly pale, so pale it put the sterile white hospital walls to
shame.
Skylar asked, “Has he been like this the whole time? Has he had anything to eat or drink?”
Skylar carefully observed his face while questioning Chris.
Chris put on a convincing act. “I’ve got no idea. Ever since he was carried down from the mountain and brought to the hospital, he’s been in and out of consciousness.
“Even in his sleep, he keeps murmuring your name. I just want him to recover faster, so I reached out and asked you to come see him.”
If Skylar hadn’t been so sharp–eyed, even she might have missed Brada’s act.
Skylar realized the two were just putting on an act, and her initial worry quickly subsided.
She took Brada’s pulse with feigned concern and remarked, “Just as expected, it’s quite serious indeed.”
Skylar said, “I know a way to help him recover faster. Want to give it a try?”
Relieved that their act hadn’t been exposed yet, Chris batted his eyelashes innocently and asked with feigned naivety, “What’s the plan?”
Skylar produced an acupuncture needle, sterilized it with an alcohol swab, and, without warning, jabbed it into Brada. Brada couldn’t suppress his reaction, his body jerked as his eyes flew open in shock.
Skylar grinned as Yosef startled awake. “Well, look at that, acupuncture never fails to wake the ‘comatose,” she teased.
“Skylar? What brings you here?” Brada stayed in character, blinking sleepily as if he’d just woken up and only now noticed her. With exaggerated remorse, he murmured, “I didn’t… disturb you, did I?”
