Chapter 224
Unwilling to accept the result, Skylar went back and drew another fortune. Another stick fell out, identical to the last
She picked up the piece from the ground, examined the container, and a suspicion began to form in her mind.
Skylar shook the container once more, and this time, all the sticks tumbled out.
She picked them up one by one, only to realize that every single slip bore identical inscriptions. ‘What the heck is going on? Skyler muttered, her suspicion deepening.
Skylar stood up, set the container on the table, and demanded, “Brada, what’s going on? Care to explain?”
Brada kept looking everywhere but at her.
He was dodging her gaze.
Skylar immediately spotted his guilty look and snorted. “You’re definitely behind this.”
Brada pouted, “Skylar, I just wanted you to notice me more.”
Skylar said, “Stop playing these silly games.”
Though Skylar didn’t really believe in fortune–telling stuff, drawing a slip like that still left her feeling slightly unsettled.
Brada promised he wouldn’t do it again.
Skylar couldn’t stand his pleading any longer and finally relented.
At this, Brada was in high spirits again.
Yosef watched as Brada lifted his chin with pride and shot him a smug, triumphant look. ‘Jealousy surged through me like a tidal wave,‘ he thought, unable to hide the storm brewing in his heart.
Yosef thought bitterly, ‘Why is Skylar being so lenient with him? Could it be… she’s actually developed feelings for him?‘
At this thought, Yosef’s fists clenched tightly.
Yosef thought bitterly, ‘No matter what happens between Skylar and me, it’s between us. She can yell at me, hit me, take it all out on me, I’ll never utter a word of complaint. But there’s one thing I can’t accept, which is Skylar falling for someone else.
‘I can’t stand this eyesore any longer. I need to figure out a way to send him packing back to where he came from.‘
As noon approached, the church served meals to all the visitors.
Skylar had eaten that morning, but after such a long climb, she’d already burned through all her energy.
If she waited until they were down the mountain to eat, she thought, ‘I’ll probably be so hungry halfway that I won’t even have the strength to keep going.’
Skylar discussed with Brada about staying for the meal at the church.
Brada, intrigued by the church cuisine, agreed readily.
Yosef followed them in silence, keeping his distance.
Skylar was always aware of Yosef trailing behind her, but she deliberately ignored him, pretending he didn’t exist..

After finishing their meal, they knew they had to hurry down the mountain while there was still daylight.
Otherwise, once night fell, the steep mountain trail would be nearly impossible to navigate without any flashlights.
Besides, in the mountains, wild critters might suddenly pop up to block their way.
Brada had wanted to stay longer on the mountain with Skylar, but the moment she brought up the dangers, he changed his mind right away.
On the way down the mountain, Yosef walked side by side with Brada.
Brada was clearly provoking him on purpose.
Brada nudged him on purpose. “Hey you, what’s your name?”
Last time, Brada hadn’t managed to ask Yosef’s name, and all his attempts to dig up information later had led nowhere.
No way was he letting that happen again. This time, he was determined to get that name out of him.
Yosef didn’t give his name directly but countered with a question, “And why do you want to know my name?”
Brada said, “We’re rivals in love, what do you think I’d do with your name?” He thought, ‘Obviously, I’ll dig up his weaknesses, deliver a knockout blow, and make him back off on his own.”
“Sorry, no comment,” Yosef replied coolly.
Brada snapped, her face flushed with anger. “You’re really no fun at all.”
Yosef shot back, “Right back at you.”
“You…”
“What about me?” Yosef replied with icy calm. “Speechless? Or can’t get the words out? Feel free to use Lunpish if you want, I’ll understand.”
“Oh wow, you know Lunpish. Big deal. Got the guts to try another language?”
