Adam ran back to his dad, clutching his little blanket. In a hushed voice, he whispered, “Daddy, this is for you.”
Yosef gently draped the blanket over Skylar, making sure she was comfortable. Adam snuggled up on his father’s other side, eyes closed, already drifting off to sleep.
The three of them nestled together, creating a picture of perfect serenity, as if time itself had slowed and all was peaceful.
Skylar opened her eyes, startled to find she had fallen asleep leaning against Yosef.
Yosef still had his arms wrapped around her. Skylar’s body went rigid. She didn’t dare move a muscle, utterly at a loss about how to react.
Yosef noticed Skylar’s eyelashes fluttering and realized she was awake. Speaking gently, he said, “Since you’re awake, you might as well get up.”
Skylar straightened up, smoothing her slightly tousled hair with mild embarrassment. “Are you okay?” she asked.
Afraid of waking them, Yosef stayed perfectly still. Sitting bolt upright for so long was getting a little uncomfortable, and his limbs were starting to go
numb.
But he kept a straight face, concealing his discomfort. “I’m fine,” he replied..
He then asked, “Adam is still sleeping. Do you have a lounge or a rest area here?”
Skylar stood up.
After sitting for so long, her legs went numb. She couldn’t keep her balance, her knees buckled as if she were about to kneel.

Yosef reacted swiftly. His arm shot out to catch her.
Since he was still seated, Skylar landed right on his lap.
The unexpectedly intimate position left Skylar strangely flustered, she held her breath, not daring to make a sound.
The sudden movement woke Adam. Rubbing his eyes, he mumbled in a sleepy, slightly hoarse voice, “Daddy, Mommy, what’s going on?”
Skylar quickly slipped out of his arms, pretending to straighten her clothes. Trying to sound indifferent, she said, “It’s nothing, Adam. Go back to sleep.”
Adam was still half–asleep. His eyelids drooped heavily and stuck together again as he quickly drifted back off to sleep.
Yosef could still feel Skylar’s warmth lingering on his fingertips. Absentmindedly, he rubbed them together.
“I’ll show you to the lounge.” Skylar walked ahead while Yosef followed closely behind, carefully cradling Adam in his arms.
As soon as Adam touched the bed, he instinctively curled up and pulled his little blanket tightly around himself, cocooning himself completely.
Skylar asked, “You must have other things to do, right?”
Yosef caught her unspoken hint. She wanted him gone.
He chose not to overstay his welcome, being too persistent might just drive her away.
Yosef said, “I’m heading out now. If you need anything, just text me.”
Skylar watched him leave, then sank onto the edge of the bed, pressing a hand to her racing heart.
She thought, ‘It’s pounding so wildly. I’m afraid it might leap right out of my throat.’

Chapter 214
Skylar gave a wry, self–deprecating smile.
She thought, Just a brief touch, and my heart’s already racing out of control? How pathetic, Skylar.
I was sure I’d finally decided to stop getting tangled up with him, but it seems fate had other plans.‘
Skylar cradled her head in her hands and let out a soft sigh. She thought, ‘What a mess. It’s too tangled to sort out.
‘Since I can’t avoid him, I might as well just let it be.
‘There’s absolutely no way I’ll ever forgive Yosef, let alone reconcile with him.‘
Skylar forced herself to push all those chaotic thoughts out of her mind
Skylar got up, went out to ask Sophie to keep an eye on Adam in the lounge, then returned to her office to work.
Just as Skylar assumed Brada was done pursuing her, he unexpectedly appeared at her office again.
As usual, Brada brought a bouquet of flowers, but this time he also brought an extra set of children’s toys for Adam.
Brada placed the flowers on the coffee table beside the sofa, then handed the toy to Adam.
He asked, “Hey Adam, want to play with this? I’d love to join you.”
Adam just glanced at it and shook his head. “Don’t wanna play with that.”
Brada wasn’t discouraged by Adam’s cold response. He smiled and said, “So, buddy, what do you want to play with? Just let me know, and I’ll bring it next time.”
