Brada thought, ‘Kids are easier to win over. If I can get Adam on my side, I’ll be halfway to winning Skylar’s heart.‘
Brada grinned even wider as he looked at Adam. “Hey there, kiddo, how about we play together for a while?”
Adam turned his head away sharply. “No! Mommy said I shouldn’t trust strangers. I don’t want you to take me away from Mommy.”
Skylar gently patted Adam’s back and said, “Don’t worry, buddy. Brada would never do anything to hurt you.”
Skylar coaxed gently, “Adam, why don’t you play with Brada for a while? Mommy just needs to finish up some work.”
Since Brada was already here, Skylar figured she might as well go with the flow and stop dwelling on his pursuit.
Skylar thought, ‘Let him chase if he wants. I’m just not saying yes.’
Skylar set Adam down and let him play with Brada.
Brada led Adam back to the couch.
Brada asked, “So your name is Adam? Mind if I call you Adam?”
Adam nodded absentmindedly.
Adam glanced at the text he’d sent but got no response.
He thought, “It’s been over ten minutes already. Where is Dad? What could be so important that he’s ignoring me?
‘Doesn’t Dad care at all? He’s practically handing Mommy over to someone else to be taken away!‘
Adam absentmindedly humored Brada while anxiously awaiting his father’s reply.
Yosef had just been in a meeting and hadn’t seen the message from his son.
As soon as Yosef saw Adam’s message, he swiftly delegated his tasks and drove straight over.
The Campbell Group had an ongoing partnership with Phidon Pharmaceuticals.
Yosef went straight upstairs, unchallenged by the front desk.
Once upstairs, he went straight to Skylar’s office.

Held securely in his father’s arms, Adam whispered urgently, “Daddy, you’re finally here! I’ve been waiting for you forever.”
Adam urged anxiously, “Daddy, if you don’t come soon, that man is going to take Mommy away!”
Yosef patted Adam reassuringly. “Easy now, I’m here.”
Skylar frowned. “What are you doing here?”

“Adam said he missed me, so I came to see him,” Yosef said with a straight face.
Adam quickly chimed in, “That’s right, I missed Daddy.”
Skylar pressed her lips together, a flicker of resignation crossing her face.
Skylar thought to herself, ‘There’s no way I can sever the bond between father and son. Yosef has every legitimate right to visit Adam.’
With so many people in the office, Skylar found it rather inappropriate. She picked up the intercom and called Sophie in.
Skylar said to Sophie, “Sophie, could you please take them to the reception room?”
“Certainly, Ms. Lambert,” Sophie replied with a professional smile, “Please follow me.”
The group followed Sophie into the reception room.
Sophie brought in some child–friendly snacks, served coffee to Yosef and Brada, and prepared a glass of water for Adam.
Sophie set the coffee pot down and said, “Please feel free to call me if you need anything else.”
“Thank you,” Yosef and Brada said in unison, their eyes meeting briefly.
Sophie could practically feel the tension in the air.
One was Adam’s father, Skylar’s ex, and the other was her suitor. Put these two together, and sparks were bound to fly.
She wanted to stay and watch, but she was afraid of getting caught in the crossfire if these two powerful men really clashed.
In the end, Sophie left.
Yosef asked, “May I know your name,
sir?”
Noting the other man’s friendly demeanor, Brada eased his edge slightly. He introduced himself, “Brada Fleur.”
Yosef lifted his coffee cup and took a sip. “Mr. Fleur, I’m well aware of your intentions toward her. But don’t you think you’re showing me a lack of
