Instantly, all eyes in the Lambert household snapped to Freya.

Freya frantically grabbed her phone and hung up.
Freya forced a smile, clutching her phone. “Oh, just my friend calling. Funny timing, isn’t it?”

Skylar immediately redialed.
The moment Skylar dialed again, Freya’s phone rang out loud.
Adam pointed at her phone. “Her phone’s ringing again, another ‘friend‘ calling? Seriously, what are the odds?”
Freya flushed crimson, clutching her phone in a death grip.
Freya realized she was cornered. Frantically, she racked her brain, trying to figure out how to talk her way out of this situation…
Freya bit her lip, hesitated for a long moment, then finally admitted in a small voice, “It’s my alternate account.”
“Freya, why would you do this?” Victor’s expression darkened, his tone stern. “You pretended to be Skylar just to date him? What were you thinking?”
Freya’s eyes welled up with tears instantly, looking like a frightened little rabbit. “Victor, I… Back then, Bud told me he’d fallen for Skylar at first sight.
He… he asked me for her contact info.
“He’s my friend and the leader of our group. Everyone looks up to him. I was terrified he’d single me out in the lab group, and then my life there would become unbearable.
“So I gave him Skylar’s contact info, but she never accepted his friend request.”
With tears in her eyes, Freya bit her lower lip. “Later, when he asked me again, I had no choice but to give him my alternate account and pretend to be Skylar when chatting with him.”
Skylar’s voice was icy. “If he hadn’t come to me and I hadn’t found out, were you planning to keep impersonating me and being with him indefinitely?
“Was I just supposed to wake up one day with a boyfriend I never asked for?”
Freya shook her head frantically, tears streaming down her face as she sobbed, “I swear I was going to cut things off with him for good soon.
“I never thought this would blow up and reach you I’m so sorry, I really didn’t mean for this to happen.”
Freya whimpered, “Skylar, I know I messed up. Can you please forgive me, just this once? I swear I’ll never do anything like this again.”
“Do you realize that because of this mess, I ended up at the police station today and got framed by Bud and his mother?”
Freya cursed Bud in her heart again. Covering her face with trembling hands, she sobbed, “I’m really, really sorry. I never meant for this to happen.
“I’ll handle this situation, Skylar. Don’t worry, I promise it won’t cause you any more trouble.”
“Freya, you’re a Lambert after all. Why on earth would you be afraid of him?” Yana couldn’t understand her adopted daughter’s behavior. “If you’re wronged, just come home and tell us. We’re your family, we’ll always stand up for you.”
“Mom, I really didn’t think it through at the time,” Freya said in a small, trembling voice, trying to defend herself, “And even if I had come back and told you, you and Dad couldn’t possibly watch over me 24/7.”

“If you’re ever wronged, come home and tell us. We may not always be there to watch over you, but we’ll make sure he knows his place and won’t dare lay a finger on you.”
Freya wiped away her tears and nodded obediently. “I got it, Mom. If anything like this ever happens again, I promise I’ll come to you right away and tell you everything.”
Freya had managed to wriggle out of trouble after all.
