Chapter 200
After listening to Sophie, Skylar said apologetically to Adam, “Sweetie, Mommy needs to handle something urgent right now. Play by yourself at home, I’ll be right back.”
Before Adam could tell her he wanted to go too, Skylar had already rushed out the door.
Adam tilted his head, his little mind buzzing with questions.
‘What could be so important to make Mommy leave in such a hurry?‘ Adam wondered.
Worried that she might be in trouble, Adam immediately texted Yosef.
‘Daddy didn’t reply. Maybe he’s busy at work, Adam thought, feeling a little disappointed.
With no other choice, Adam went to find Victor, who was at home and not working lately, and asked him to take him to Skylar’s company.
“Sophie,” Skylar said, “take him upstairs first. We don’t need people gathering around, who knows what kind of office gossip that might start.”
Skylar arrived at the meeting room. The moment Bud spotted her, he sprang up excitedly and rushed toward her. “Skylar!”
Skylar quickly stepped back, putting clear distance between them. “Sir, please don’t stand so close to me.”
“Skylar, how could you do this to me?” Bud said, his voice breaking with hurt.
Yosef repeated the way Bud addressed her, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Yosef glared at Skylar. “Are you two that close? What exactly is going on between you two?”
Skylar couldn’t answer his question, she was just as confused about Bud as he was.
She said to Bud, “I don’t even know you. Could you please stop calling me that?”
Bud said, “Skylar, you’re nothing like your online self!”
“What do you mean, different? You’re making no sense at all!”
Bud’s voice trembled with heartbreak. “Skylar, how could you just turn your back on me like this?”
‘Seriously? I haven’t even done anything. Why is he acting like some jilted ex?‘ Skylar thought to herself.
Skylar said coolly, “Sir, I don’t even know you, so there’s no question of turning my back on you.”
“You don’t know me?” Bud said, his irritation barely concealed as he eyed Skylar. He was convinced she was just pretending. “Stop playing dumb, I’ve got
proof.”
Skylar didn’t say a word, she just waited, arms crossed, for him to bring out his so–called “evidence.”
Bud clenched his teeth, pulled up the screenshots of their chat messages on his phone, and shoved it toward Skylar. “The: from the past few days. Don’t even think about denying it.”
“Mind if I hold it and take a closer look?” Skylar asked calmly, reaching out her hand.
Bud reluctantly let go of his phone.
Skylar flipped through a few screenshots on his phone, barely glancing at them before handing it back.

Skylar looked at him coolly. “That’s not, my WhatsApp ID. As for whose it is, you should probably ask whoever gave you that contact.”

“Impossible!” Bud instinctively denied. “There’s no way this is the wrong contact.
Skylar shot back. “How can you be so certain? Seriously, do you think I’d mistake my own account?
Skylar’s rapid–fire questions left Bud completely speechless.
He still couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that he’d been chatting with someone he didn’t even knowefor the past few days. All that money be disperk was obviously wasted.
‘I’m not letting all that money go to waste!‘ Bud fumed.
He said, “I don’t care! This is all your fault, you’re going to pay for my losses!”
He threw a tantrum, stubbornly latching onto Skylar and refusing to let her off the hook.
Skylar maintained an icy composure, though a flicker of exasperation crossed her face.
This wasn’t even her account, and it had nothing to do with her, yet this guy was still trying to pin this on her. She felt that this was unbelievable
‘Compensation? Keep dreaming,‘ Skylar thought, rolling her eyes.
Skylar said coolly, “This isn’t my fault. I don’t see why I should be held responsible.”
“It’s all your fault! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have added the wrong number and wasted all this money!” Bud refused to admit otherwise, dead set on making Skylar take the blame.
He added, “This mess started because of you, so you’re going to fix it!”
Skylar mentally rolled her eyes. She had no desire to waste another word on someone she couldn’t
reason with.
