Chapter 185
“Since I wasn’t sure about your preferences, I took the liberty of ordering their signature dishes first.” Yosef handed the menu to Skylar. “Please take a look and add anything else you’d like.”
Skylar declined the menu with a curt, “I’m not picky.”
Victor didn’t stand on ceremony with Yosef, taking the menu directly. No matter how furious he was, he wasn’t about to let anger ruin his appetite.
With Adam sitting between them, Yosef would first serve food to Adam, then casually slip some into Skylar’s plate as well.
Victor abruptly stood up and snatched the food Yosef had just placed in Skylar’s plate with his fork. Chewing aggressively, he shot Yosef a glare that said, “No way I’m letting you feed my sister.”
Victor chewed the food ferociously, as if it were Yosef himself, his eyes shooting daggers at Yosef across the table.
As long as Victor was around, Yosef wouldn’t get anywhere near Skylar.
Yosef frowned slightly but said nothing, picking up another morsel with his fork. Just as he was about to place it in Skylar’s plate, Victor swiftly intercepted it.
A cold glint flashed in Yosef’s eyes.
Victor locked eyes with Yosef and smirked. “Skylar’s not a fan of this, so I’ll eat it for her.”
Yosef narrowed his eyes slightly but let it pass. Just as his fork reached toward the dish, Victor’s utensils swooped in and snatched away the very morsel he’d been aiming for…
Victor popped the food into his mouth with deliberate slowness, shooting Yosef a smug look. “Delicious,” he drawled.
A dangerous glint flashed in Yosef’s eyes as his grip tightened around the fork.
Victor kept eating while carefully watching Yosef’s expression.
Yosef didn’t want to escalate the conflict. Suppressing his irritation, he set down his fork with deliberate calm.
“Mr. Yates, I was wrong about what happened yesterday, and I apologize,” Yosef said, producing the gift he had prepared. “This is my peace offering for you. Skylar, this one’s for you.”
Skylar didn’t even glance at the gift. “No need. Let’s just pretend that day never happened. Mr. Campbell, you’d better forget it too.”
She had no intention of getting dragged into more pointless drama with Yosef over this.
Victor refused the gift as well. “Take it back. I won’t accept anything from you. Skylar, have you had enough?”
Skylar set down her fork. “I’m done.”
Victor said curtly, “We’ll be going. Enjoy your meal, Mr. Campbell.” With that, he strode over and scooped up Adam mid–bite.
Adam held up his spoon with a bewildered expression. “Uncle Victor, I’m not finished eating yet!”
Victor gently took the spoon from Adam’s hand and set it back on the table. “Don’t worry, buddy. I’ll take you out fo
thing even tastier in a bit.”
Adam leaned against Victor’s shoulder, watching his dad sit dejectedly in the private room. He sighed inwardly, thinking, “I should’ve told Dad about Uncle Victor and Mom sooner. Then he wouldn’t have hit Uncle Victor and made him so angry. Now Uncle Victor keeps picking on him.‘
Adam slumped listlessly in Victor’s arms, his little mind racing with thoughts.

Adam thought anxiously, ‘What should I do to help Dad? How can I make things better for him?
Adam chewed on his lip anxiously, squirming restlessly in Victor’s arms.
Victor reached over and held Adam’s fidgety little head steady. “What’s gotten into you,
little guy?”
Adam said, “I am thinking about something very important.”
“Stop overthinking everything, kiddo. You’ll stunt your

growth!” Victor teased him playfully.
Adam pouted and called out to his mom, “Mom, will I teat
Skylar smiled and said gently, “Of course not, sweetheart.”
not grow tall if I think too much?”
Adam beamed triumphantly, “Mom’s a doctor. She says that’s not true! Uncle Victor, you’re just talking nonsense.”
Victor tweaked Adam’s little nose and said, “Oh, so now you’re teasing your uncle, huh?”
Adam wrinkled his little nose and huffed, “Uncle Victor’s so mean!”
Victor carried Adam into the car, let out a half–hearted response. He played along, “You’re right, Uncle Victor is mean.”
Victor held the door for his sister, and once Skylar was inside, he instructed the driver to take them to his favorite restaurant.
