Chapter 174
Clutching the spot where he’d been hit, Curtis glared, eyes wide in disbelief. “Why the hell did you hit me?”
“Such a foul mouth.” Yosef flicked his wrist dismissively, his eyes icy. “Polluting my ears!
Curtis sputtered in rage, “You… you actually hit me? Do you have any idea who my father is?”
Skylar cut in with a smirk, “Can’t win in a fight or an argument, so now you’re running to daddy?”
Curtis trembled with rage, pointing an accusing finger at Skylar. “You… you…”
Skylar tilted her head slightly, a hint of challenge in her eyes. “What about me?” she shot back. “You’d better put that finger down. I have zero tolerance for people pointing at me.”
Skylar said with a deceptively sweet smile, “My usual response to people pointing at me is breaking their fingers.”
As she spoke, her lips curved in a faint smile, but her eyes showed not the slightest trace of amusement, if anything, a glint of bloodlust flickered just beneath the surface.
Curtis’s lips trembled as he hastily pulled his hand back, his pride clearly wounded. With a heavy snort, he spat out, “Just you wait!”
Adam pouted, “Like we’d have time to wait for you!”
Choking back his rage, Curtis clenched his fists, scrambled into the truck, and sped off.
Yosef swept a cold gaze across the room. “Not a single word about today leaves this place.
“If I catch even a whisper of this gossip anywhere else, the Campbell family will make every last gossipmonger pay.”
The crowd shuddered under his icy gaze, hastily assuring him again and again, “We won’t say a word!”
Victor had just finished his makeup for the next scene when he stepped out and overheard the crew gossiping about some rose incident, catching snippets of Skylar’s name in their chatter.
Ignoring the director’s calls, Victor bolted out.
Victor masked the storm of concern in his eyes, forcing himself to appear casual as he walked up to his sister.
Victor asked, “Are you alright, Sapphire?”
Skylar smiled and shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Adam began to call out when he saw Victor, only for Skylar to immediately clamp a hand over his mouth.
Adam let out a muffled sound and looked up at his mom, utterly confused. He didn’t understand why she was covering his mouth
Skylar whispered in Adam’s ear, “Adam, Uncle Victor is using a different identity in public. You mustn’t call him ‘uncle‘ out here, okay?”
Adam couldn’t quite figure out why Victor had two identities.
Adam always obeyed his mom. If she told him not to call someone “uncle,” he simply wouldn’t.
Adam nodded obediently.
Skylar let go of Adam’s hand and introduced, “This is Uncle Yates.”
Adam nibbled his lip uncertainly before murmuring, “Uncle Yates…”
Chapter 174
Yosef’s eyes darkened as he watched Caden and Skylar standing, uncomfortably clone, a surge of irritation twisting in his chest.
Yosef called out sharply, “Skylar, we need to talk.”
Skylar arched a brow. “What is it?”
Yosef fixed his gaze on Skylar. “Come here. I need to speak with you alone.”
Victor was on high alert around Yosef.
Victor thought to himself, ‘Yosef is bad news. No way am I letting my sister meet him alone.
Victor stepped protectively in front of his sister, his voice edged with suspicion. “What can’t be said in front of everyone?”
Yosef answered, “Private matters.”
“Sapphire and I are really close, there’s nothing private about her that I can’t hear.”
Yosef’s eyes darkened dangerously. “Is that so?”
Victor turned to look at his sister. “Sapphire, you wouldn’t mind, would you?”
Skylar nodded. “Mr. Yates is indeed a close friend of mine, there’s nothing I can’t say in front of him.”
Hearing Skylar personally admit that Caden was special to her, Yosef’s irritation flared even more.
Without another word, Yosef strode over, grabbed Adam’s small hand, and marched off with him inside.
Adam’s little legs just couldn’t keep up with Yosef’s long strides. The poor kid had to jog behind him, on the verge of tears, but too upset to say anything.
