Curtis had completely dropped his previous aggressive demeanor, now speaking in an uncharacteristically gentle tone.
Skylar’s lips twitched slightly in disgust, his theatrically exaggerated display honestly made her feel a bit sick.
Skylar slightly lowered her eyes, concealing her emotions so the charade wouldn’t fall apart.
Skylar stayed silent, and Curtis, thinking she was just shy, flashed a smug grin and ran a hand through his hair, convinced he was being irresistibly charming..
Curtis grinned smugly. “I know you’re so moved you’re speechless. Say yes to me, and I’ll sweep you off your feet even more.”

into a strained smile. She was just about to speak when a small, tender voice suddenly cut in.

“No way! I don’t agree!” Adam Campbell protesto
He scurried over in small, hasty steps, clinging tightly to his mother’s leg, tears streaming down his face. “Mommy, please don’t leave Daddy and me!” he pleaded.

know how to sweet–talk Mommy.
‘If Mommy really gets taken in by that smooth–talking jerk, then my dream of living with both Mommy and Daddy will be ruined!
‘Thank goodness I dragged Daddy along, otherwise, that jerk might’ve stolen Mommy away!‘
Like a puppy guarding its food, Adam bared his tiny white teeth and glared furiously at Curtis.
Yosef approached slowly from not far away, his obsidian eyes utterly devoid of warmth, staring at Curtis as if he were already a corpse.
Skylar sighed inwardly. ‘So much for that plan,‘ she thought.
Curtis stood there, stunned, when he heard Adam çall Skylar “Mommy.”
He thought, ‘Wait, this woman is already married with a child? What the hell is Joanne playing at?‘
He might be a bit of a scoundrel, but he’d never mess with a married woman.
He thought, ‘If this backfires and I get beaten up by her husband, that’d be more trouble than it’s worth.
‘Damn it! Joanne actually sent me to hit on a married woman? What a
a joke!‘
He had never been so thoroughly duped before. He was absolutely livid, his face flushed crimson with rage.
With a scowl, Curtis kept muttering curses. “What the hell? Married with a husband and kid, yet flirting with other men behind his back. What a goddamn unfaithful slut.”
Adam put his hands on his hips and glared. “You jerk! Don’t you dare insult my mommy!”
Adam balled his tiny fists, ready to charge at him to get back at him for his mom.
Skylar grabbed Adam by the collar. “Adam, calm/down.”
“Yeah, I’m cursing your mom, what are you gonna do about it?” Curtis sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. “A shameless slut like you deserves to
die.”
Skylar scoffed and retorted, “Proof? How can you say I am being unfaithful?

Skylar suddenly covered her mouth in mock realization. “Oh, I almost forgot, you just got out of the police station, didn’t you? If word gets out about your back–to–back arrests, what would your friends think of you?”
Skylar shot him a sly smile, ”
“I bet your family doesn’t even know, do they? Maybe I should pay your parents a visit and let them know what their precise
son has really been up to.”
Curtis exploded, “You bitch! How dare you!”
“What wouldn’t I dare?” Skylar smirked.
Unable to out–argue Skylar, Curtis turned to Yosef, jutting his chin at him with a cocky smirk. “Dude, you’d better keep your wife in check, or she’ll end up walking all over you.
“I think you two should just get divorced now, before she starts cheating on you,”
Yosef approached him with a mirthless smile. “What did you just say? Care to repeat that?”
Curtis, completely oblivious to the danger lurking in Yosef’s smile, said, “I’m telling you, that woman is no good, two–timing and unreliable. You’d
better…”
Yosef didn’t hesitate. He threw a punch.
Curtis staggered back, seeing stars, completely stunned.
