Skylar quirked her lips in a subtle, knowing smile.
She knew exactly what Victor was up to, but chose to play along.
“Victor,” Skylar said, “people like her don’t think like normal folks. I’m afraid she might do something even crazier if provoked. We both need to be on our guard from now on.”
Victor nodded firmly. “Don’t worry, Skylar. Since I’m the one who dragged you into this mess, I promise I’ll definitely protect you.”
“I’m not saying this because I’m scared,” Skylar said, “I just want to remind you to be extra careful.”
“I know,” Victor smiled.
Victor urged warmly, “Dig in before it gets cold. We’ll head back after we finish.”
He didn’t want Skylar to go hungry.
As the conversation circled back to dinner, Skylar looked at the mountain of food Victor had piled up for her and sighed inwardly. “Victor really went overboard with the portions,” she thought.
Still, not wanting to let her brother down, she reluctantly forced herself to finish every bite, ending up painfully full. To ease the discomfort, she quickly inserted two acupuncture needles into specific points on her wrist, and almost instantly, the uncomfortable bloating subsided.
The next two days passed without incident, an eerie calm settled over everything.
Nothing had happened, and that was exactly what made Skylar uneasy.
After all, it was always the calm before the storm.
That night, after hours of script revisions, Skylar felt a bit hungry.
Ordering delivery would take too long. Not wanting to wait, Skylar grabbed her jacket and headed out alone to grab a bite.
On her way back, Skylar sensed faint footsteps shadowing her as she walked ahead.
Without betraying any emotion, Skylar quickened her pace, and the footsteps behind her immediately matched her speed.
Skylar weaved through the streets, her pursuers nearly losing her in the maze of sharp turns.
One of the thugs whispered, “Damn, did she spot us?”
The leader snarled, “Shut your damn mouths and stay close! Fall behind, and I’ll snap your legs!”
Skylar came to an abrupt stop.
In a flash, the men closed in, forming a semicircle and surrounding Skylar in their midst.
The bleach–blond thug squinted at her and said, “Hey, pretty, aren’t you scared out here all alone?” He licked his lips, edging closer. “How about a kiss for your troubles? Be real sweet and maybe I’ll walk ya home.”
Skylar subtly slipped a silver needle from her sleeve and shot back, “Your breath reeks. Ever heard of a toothbrush?”
“Smart–mouthed bitch,” the bleach–blond thug sneered, waving his hand. “Boys, get over here and strip her naked, let’s see if she still talks back after
that.”
At his command, the thugs lunged at Skylar like rabid animals, their hands grabbing at her.

Chapter 169
Skylar didn’t hesitate. She drove her silver needles straight into their grasping hands.
Cries of pain erupted as the men clutched their hands, howling in agony.
The men howled, clutching their hands in pain,
One of them said, “Damin, it hurts!”
Another said, “You crazy bitch! What kind of sneaky shit did you just pull on us?”
Someone else said, “Boss, she’s got something in her hand!”
Seeing this, the bleach–blond thug pulled out a switchblade and spat at Skylar. He snarled, “Bitch, since you turned down my kindness, don’t blame me for showing no mercy.”
He lunged at Skylar with the knife raised.
Skylar lashed out with a side kick, sending the knife flying from his hand. In one fluid motion, she pivoted and delivered a crushing kick to the blond thug’s head, dropping him to the pavement.
His eyes flashed with malice. He lunged for the knife lying nearby, intent on striking Skylar again.
Skylar stomped her foot down on his hand, grinding it mercilessly into the pavement. Sneering, she said, “You think you can kill me? Keep dreaming. you’re nowhere near capable.”
“Have mercy, lady! I know I was wrong,” the bleach–blond thug pleaded pitifully, begging over and over.
Skylar pressed down even harder and sneered, “Someone like you doesn’t deserve mercy.”
The bleach–blond thug, roared in fury, “You useless sacks of shit! What the hell are you staring at? Get over here and beat her to death! Save me!”
