Elianna kept crying and yelling that she wasn’t sick and wanted to leave, but no one paid her any attention.
She tried to fight back, but the other patients thought she was playing a game with them and attacked her even more viciously
Elianna felt like she was losing her mind. She attempted to bite her tongue and kill herself, but failed. The people arranged by Yosef saved her in time.
Yosef was with Skylar, helping their child take medicine, when he received the news about Elianna’s suicide attempt.
Holding his phone, he walked to the window with his back facing Skylar and Adam. His expression was ice–cold.
In a deliberately lowered voice, he said coldly, “Keep an eye on her. Don’t let her die. I want her to live in pain.”
After giving his orders, he hung up and returned to the bedside.
Adam, clinging sweetly to Skylar’s arm, pleaded, “Mommy, I don’t want to take it.”
Skylar looked at the bowl. “There’s just one sip left.”
Adam patted his belly, “My tummy is big now. I can’t drink anymore.”
Yosef cleared his throat. “Adam.”
The chill in his voice made the little one’s goosebumps rise. He didn’t dare act spoiled anymore. “Mommy, I’ll drink it. Can you feed me?”
Skylar smiled softly and fed him the last sip. “All done. Now drink some honey water to wash it down.”
Adam eagerly picked up the cup and gulped it down.
After chugging the whole glass, he wailed, “The medicine is so bitter!”
Yosef said calmly, “It’s medicine to cure you, not candy. Of course it’s bitter.”
Adam asked, “Mommy, can you make me sweet medicine next time?”
Skylar nodded. “I can, but it might not work as well.”
“Then never mind.” Adam sighed. He wanted sweet medicine, but he also wanted to get better quickly.
Skylar gently rubbed his head. “Hang in there. Once you’re better, you won’t need to take medicine anymore.”
Adam nodded. “Mommy, when can I go home?”
He’d already been in the hospital for two or three days and felt like he reeked of hospital smell. It was awful.
Skylar replied, “Once the doctor finishes the checkup, we can go.”
“Yeah,” Adam murmured softly to Skylar.
Watching the sweet moment between mother and son, Yosef felt a wave of sourness bubble up in his heart,
He interjected, “Skylar, my wound feels a bit off. Can you check it for me?”
He purposely tensed his hand, causing the wound to reopen and start bleeding.
Skylar looked up. The white bandage was stained red.

“It’s been three days. How is it not healing?” She frowned. “Could it be infected?”
She pulled his hand over and removed the bandage. Blood kept seeping from the wound underneath,
Skylar frowned in concern and asked, “How did it tear open again?”
Yosef’s face remained unchanged. “I have no idea.”
Skylar told him to wait while she went to get a first aid kit from the nurse.
Adam jumped off the bed and gently blew on his dad’s wound. “Daddy, I’ll blow on it so it won’t hurt.”
Yosef smiled slightly. His heart warmed.
Looking at Adam, a new idea popped into his head.
He asked, “Adam, do you want to live with both Mommy and Daddy?”
Adam paused and nodded hard. “Yes.”
Yosef replied, “Then you have to listen to me.”
Adam was cautious and didn’t agree right away. “If it’s something that hurts Mommy, I won’t do it.”
He wanted them to reconcile, but not at the cost of hurting his mom.
Yosef promised Adam, “Don’t worry. I’ll never let your mom get hurt.”
Adam hesitated for a moment, then held out his pinky. “Then pinky swear with me.”
Yosef twitched a bit. “Pinky swears? Isn’t that too childish?”
Adam said, “If you won’t pinky swear, I won’t agree.”
Left with no choice, Yosef swallowed his pride and hooked pinkies with him.
He asked, “That good enough now?”
Adam smiled, satisfied. “Yep.”
Adam looked up at his dad, curiosity sparkling in his eyes. “Daddy, how are you gonna win Mommy back?”
Yosef pushed away his nosy little head. “Secret.”
Adam pouted. “Stingy Daddy.”
Yosef said, “You just need to pass messages for me. Don’t worry about the rest.”
“If I don’t worry, you won’t succeed.” Adam shook his head like a tiny adult. “You can’t do it without me.”
Yosef laughed. “A little kid like you worrying so much every day.”
Adam pouted indignantly. “I’m not a little kid! I’m a big kid now!”
Yosef brushed him off, his eyes watching the door in case Skylar came back and overheard. “Sure, big kid.”
Adam was annoyed by Yosef’s attitude and went back to sit on the bed alone.
When Skylar came back with the first aid kit and saw the two sitting in silence, the air felt oddly awkward.

Chapter 162
As she treated Yosef’s wound, she asked, “Why aren’t you two talking?”
“Daddy’s mean. I don’t want to talk to him.” Adam huffed, lifting his chin to show his displeasure,
Skylar looked curious. “What did Daddy do?”
Just as Adam was about to spill the beans, Yosef gave him a sharp look. He then replied, “Nothing.”
Adam lowered his head, sulking.
Since the matter seemed private between father and son, Skylar didn’t press further. If the little guy didn’t want to talk, she wouldn’t force him,
After Adam was discharged, he stayed home under the care of Yana and Carlos.
Finally, Skylar had some time to handle other matters.
She instructed Leon to keep a close watch on the Stone family and report daily.
Leon reported, “Ms. Lambert, the Stone family is desperately searching for investors. Looks like they’re about to collapse.”
Skylar said calmly, “Go find David. Tell him you’re willing to help him through this rough patch, but only by acquiring his company.”
Leon replied, “Got it.”
To David, the company was his everything.
If he found out it was the adopted daughter he hated most who had bought him out, he would surely break down.
That was exactly what Skylar wanted.
Everything she’d suffered back then. She was going to make the Stone family pay for it.
David was swamped and frantic trying to save the business. That was when Leon appeared, like a savior.
“Acquisition?” David echoed, his voice tinged with surprise.
David hadn’t planned on selling the company. He still dreamed of a comeback.
He said, “You don’t look like someone short on cash. Why not be charitable and lend me a hand? Just give me the investment, and I promise I’ll pay you back with interest.”
Leon almost burst out laughing.
David might be dumb, but he sure knew how to scheme. What he really meant was to get free money.
Leon replied, “No. Either accept the acquisition and stay on as chairman, or watch your company go under. Your choice.”
David didn’t expect Leon to be so tough. He thought it over. “If I agree to the acquisition, can I really remain chairman?”
