“If he can’t hold onto it, you keep it for him,” Yana said with a sly smile.
If she gave it to Adam, Skylar would have no choice but to accept it.
Carlos agreed wholeheartedly. “Exactly. You’re his mom. You keeping it is the same as him having it.”
Blake didn’t say much. He just pulled out several cards and stuffed them into her hands.
Skylar, holding a pile of gifts, said, “Dad, Mom, Blake…”
Yana waved her off. “We are just showing our affection. It’s tradition. Don’t refuse.”
Skylar sighed resignedly.
On the surface, these were gifts for Adam, but in reality, they were using him as a way to give them to her.
She couldn’t reject them and could only say, “Thank you.”
Seeing her accept the gifts, all three of them were satisfied.
Meanwhile, Freya was fuming in the corner.
All that stuff, and not a single thing was hers.
Freya thought bitterly, ‘I’m nothing in this family, not even worth as much as a dog!‘
She glared hatefully at the pile in Skylar’s hands, wishing she could snatch it all away.
Yana and the others were about to bring more things when Skylar stopped them. “Dad, Mom, don’t give him anything else.”
“Adam just got out of the hospital. He needs to rest. I’ll take him upstairs first.” With that, she led the boy upstairs.
Hearing that Adam had just been released from the hospital, Yana got worried and followed them.
Carlos followed as well.
Blake stayed where he was, watching them move upstairs.
Freya, thoroughly upset, stormed to her room to vent.
After a lot of persuasion, Skylar finally got her parents to leave, giving her and the little guy some alone time.
“Adam, is there anything you want?” She couldn’t think of what to give him, so she simply asked directly.
Adam thought for a while. “Mommy, can you and Daddy take me to an amusement park for one day?”
He had once gone to a party with his dad and met some other kids who talked about amusement parks.
Their parents, even if very busy, still made time to take them there.
There were so many fun things in amusement parks.
He had once asked that mean woman if he could go with his dad.
She said not to bother his father and warned that if he did, his dad would think he was annoying.
Chapter 150
He had been so disappointed and even cried in secret. But now it was different.
His mommy was nice. She definitely wouldn’t reject him. He looked at her expectantly.
Skylar remained silent. She was hesitating.
If she agreed, she’d have to contact Yosef and be around him. But if she refused, her son would surely be heartbroken.
The two options wrestled in her mind.
Adam saw her hesitation and thought for a moment. His mommy didn’t really like his daddy. He didn’t want to make her uncomfortable.
He said, “Mommy, I don’t want to go anymore.”
His dejected little voice felt like a needle stabbing straight into Skylar’s heart.
She bit her lip. Since she couldn’t avoid it, she might as well face it head–on.
She said, “Okay. We can go. I’ll talk to your dad.”
Adam’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Really?”
Skylar nodded softly.
Adam happily jumped in place. “Yay! I can go to the amusement park! Mommy and Daddy are taking me to the amusement park!”
Skylar was startled. “Adam, don’t jump!”
He stopped at once when he heard her serious voice and apologized. “Sorry, Mommy. I forgot.”
He wasn’t allowed to move too much because of his condition.
The little guy drooped his head.
Skylar’s heart ached. “Adam, it’s just for now. Once I help you get better, you’ll be able to jump and play as much as you want.”
Adam nodded. “I trust you, Mommy.”
