Chapter 15
She wanted Skylar to be known, Indeter anyone who might dare cross her daughter.
Skylar dipped her head, her voice steady. “That’s fine. Whatever you and Dad think works
She paused, then added, “Just… keep it low key, please, I’m not big on flash,”
Skylar could see their intentions were pure, every move made with her in mind.
Having chosen to return, she couldn’t reject their love outright.
But she had her limits–she still canied secrets, identities she wasn’t ready to reveal,
The Lamberts agreed without hesitation.
Having their daughter home was joy enough, and they’d honor her wishes.
For the first time, Skylar felt a spark of hope. Maybe she could try trusting these people who seemed to genuinely love her.
Yana stood and opened her safe, pulling out a stack of documents that locked like certificates.
She pushed them into Skylar’s arms, her face glowing “Skylar, these are my welcome–home gifts for you.”
Skylar glanced through them. Those are deeds to prime real estate. She sighed softly, “Mom, I’m not really go this stuff.”
Yana’s shoulders drooped, her eyes falling to the rejected pile. “Oh, it’s my fault, I should’ve asked what you like.”
Carlos jumped in, grabbing a folder from his own safe. “Now, this is something you’ll love.”
The papers outlined share authorizations for the Lambert Group and all his personal companies.
“Sign these, Skylar, and they’re yours,” Carlos said, his eyes shining with pride.
Skylar scanned the documents, then picked out just one.
“This one’s enough,” she said, sliding the rest back across the desk
Carlos blinked, puzzled. “Skylar, that’s the pharmaceutical company. It’s been losing money for years. I was about to shut it down.”
He pointed to the other documents. “Pick something else. Anything”
The pharma company was a forgotten corner of the Lambert empire, left to rot as drug development costs piled up with no results.
A money sink like that was usually left to fail.
But Skylar’s voice was calm, unwavering: “I like it, Dad. I want this one.”
Carlos opened his mouth, then closed it, stumped.
If Skylar wanted it, he’d make it happen.
He’d back it with profits from his other businesses if needed. Keeping a small company running was no big deal for him,
“Alright, as long as you’re happy,” he said, passing her a pen with a warm smile
Skylar signed her name, her usually cool expression breaking into a bright grin.

Chapter 15
With this company, getting materials for her own pharmaceutical work would be easy, and no one would question her moves,
Yana pouted, unconvinced. “Skylar, come on, look at my gilts again. Anything here’s better than your dad’s failing company.”
She spread the deeds out on the desk, her eyes pleading. “Just take another look.”
Skylar shook her head, her tone kind but fim, “Mom, this is more than enough. I don’t need anything else.”
Yana couldn’t bring herself to snap at Skylar, so she turned her frustration on the “culprit.”
She grabbed Carlos’s arm, giving it a sharp twist.
“Always stealing the show,” she huffed, her voice playful but sharp.
Her gifts had been ignored, while Carlos had somehow nailed it.
She knew he must’ve secretly asked her what she wanted, she thought, a spark of jealousy flaring. Sneaky!
Carlos winced, caught off guard. With Yana in a mood, he knew better than to argue, so he just took the pinch quietly.
Outside the door, Freya’s eyes burned with jealousy.
She stumbled back to her room, collapsing onto the bed, her mind replaying the scene.
Any one of those companies could set her up for life.
Yet her parents hadn’t given her a second thought, showering Skylar, their precious blood daughter, with everything.
Skylar strolled in and got whatever she wanted–rooms, companies, love.
If this kept up, Freya’s whole world would be taken away. She might even be kicked out of the Lambert family.
Her fists pounded the mattress, her gaze fierce as she stared into the distance.
“No way,” she muttered, her voice low and poisonous. “I won’t let that happen.”
