Chapter 145
She continued, “Later, that woman wanted to use your cord blood for a treatment. She forced me into early labor. They told me you were dead. Iwas devastated and had no means to investigate, so I believed them.”
She covered her eyes and let out a bitter laugh at herself for being so foolish, so useless. “I didn’t know she took you and pretended you were her own child, using you to get close to your dad.”
Skylar apologized, “I’m sorry, Adam. I was useless and didn’t protect you.”
Adam got upset. “How could she do that?”
“She’s so horrible! She took me away and made me and Mommy live apart… Mommy must have been so sad.” As he spoke, his tears fell. “I feel so sad too.”
His breathing started to get rough.
Skylar noticed something was wrong and gently held his shoulders. “Adam, don’t cry. Stay calm. Deep breaths.”
But Adam couldn’t control it. His breathing got worse and worse.
Skylar held him tightly. Yosef shouted for a doctor.
The doctor rushed over and immediately began treating Adam.
Outside the ward, Skylar paced restlessly.
Yosef gently placed a hand on her shoulder. “The doctors are here. Adam will be okay.”
Skylar had just found her child again. She was terrified something might happen to him.
So much so that she even forgot she herself was a doctor and could also save her own child.
She ruffled her hair in frustration.
Fortunately, they were already in the hospital. Adam received treatment in time, and it wasn’t anything serious.
Skylar stayed by Adam’s side, holding his tiny hand to her lips, gazing at him on the hospital bed. She couldn’t look enough.
Yosef asked Hudson to bring food over. He walked over with the meal box. “You should eat something.”
“I’m not really hungry.” Skylar shook her head.
“You should still eat a little, or your blood sugar will drop,” Yosef said softly.
She remained unmoved.
Yosef added, “Do you want Adam to worry about you?”
That one sentence struck her heart. She took the box from him and opened it, beginning to eat.
She had only taken a few bites when the little guy on the bed slowly opened his eyes. Weakly, he called, “Mommy… Daddy…”
Skylar immediately put down her meal and stood up. “Baby, Mommy’s here.”
Adam tried to sit up. Skylar lifted the blanket and helped him up. “Baby, take it easy. Don’t get too emotional.”
Adam nodded obediently. “Okay, Mommy. I understand.”

He rubbed his soft cheek against hers. “Mommy…”
His soft voice tugged at something deep inside her. “Mommy’s here.”
“Daddy.” Adam turned to look at Yosef and called out, “Daddy, come here.”
Yosef walked over. “What is it?”
Adam looked up at his dad with hopeful eyes. “Daddy, can you hug Mommy and hold both of us in your arms, please?”
The two adults froze at his words.
Skylar bit her lip. “Sweetheart, you…”
“I just want to know what it feels like to be in both Mommy and Daddy’s arms at the same time,” Adam said with a look of longing. “Please?”
His wet eyes sparkled, his face full of innocent hope. No one could resist that.
Skylar held back her emotions. “Okay.”
Yosef raised his arms and wrapped them around both of them.
Adam giggled. “So this is what it feels like to be held by Mommy and Daddy. It’s so warm.”
Skylar’s nose stung. She had failed her child. If only she hadn’t been so powerless, Elianna wouldn’t have had the chance to take him.
Skylar gently promised Adam, “Sweetheart, I will never let any harm come to you again.”
Adam kissed her cheek. “I believe in you.”
Yosef looked at the sweet scene of mother and son, and his heart softened. “Daddy will protect you both too. I won’t let anything hurt you again.”
