Chapter 139
Blake’s indifferent eyes swept past her. “You’re going back to school the day after tomorrow, right? Have you packed your things?”
Freya nodded. “I’ve already packed.”
“Fine. Come if you want,” Blake said coolly.
It didn’t matter to him. Bringing her wouldn’t change anything.
Freya was overjoyed. “Thank you, Blake.”
She couldn’t help but glance at Skylar. From her brother’s attitude, it seemed like Skylar hadn’t fully won him over.
Blake controlled the Lambert Group and held immense authority in the family. If she could secure his support and get him to stand on her side, then she wouldn’t have to fear Skylar anymore.
Skylar noticed Freya’s gaze but couldn’t be bothered. Freya’s petty tricks posed no threat to her at all.
She lowered her head and wiped the mouth of the little one beside
o you want to stay home with Grandma, or come with me?”
Adam swallowed his food before speaking in a soft tone. “I’ll go with Mommy.”
Skylar patted his head.
After breakfast, they headed out.
Skylar and Adam were in one car. Freya and Blake took another.
Skylar hadn’t been back to the set for a while, having been busy dealing with the public fallout Elianna stirred up.
Now that things were more or less settled, it was time to return to the set and supervise things.
“Mommy, I heard them say Daddy is getting engaged today. Is it true?” Adam looked upset, his voice low. “Why would Daddy do that?”
his
Skylar honestly had no idea what Yosef was up to, so she couldn’t explain. She could only try to soothe the boy.
She said, “An engagement doesn’t mean marriage. Nothing’s final yet, so don’t be upset.”
Adam turned and hugged his mother’s waist, burying himself in her arms. “Mommy, why aren’t you stopping Daddy? Aren’t you two married?”
He had read in books that marriage meant a lifetime commitment with no third parties. That bad woman was trying to ruin his parents‘ relationship, but his Mommy didn’t stop it.
Skylar thought for a while before softly explaining, “Your dad and I… we don’t have feelings for each other anymore. We’re getting divorced soon. I can’t control him, and I don’t want to.”
Adam fidgeted with his fingers.
Divorce meant his mommy and daddy would split up. It would mean he had to call that awful woman “Mommy.”
At the thought, tears welled in his big, round eyes.
Feeling the wetness on the back of her hand, Skylar gently lifted his little face and realized he was crying.
She quickly pulled him onto her lap and carefully wiped his tears. “Baby, why are you crying?”
Adam asked with tears, “Does this mean I can’t call you ‘Mommy‘ anymore?”

Skylar replied, “You can, as long as you want to.”
Adam wrapped his arms around her neck, sniffling. “Can I still live with you?”
Skylar smiled. “Of course you can.”
From his few words, Skylar could see how anxious he was inside. She said a lot to comfort him.
She said, “You don’t have to worry about anything. No matter what happens between the adults, it won’t affect my relationship with you. Don’t be sad anymore, okay? Your eyes will start hurting.”
Kids‘ moods changed fast. Before long, the tears were gone, and Adam was smiling again.
He looked up with his tear–streaked face and said playfully, “Mommy, my face feels weird.”
Skylar smiled gently and fondly rubbed his ears. “I’ll wipe it for you.”
She pulled a handkerchief from her bag and carefully cleaned his face.
His skin was soft and delicate. She didn’t dare use too much force.
Once she was done, Adam happily cuddled up to her again, chatting away.
In the other car, Freya had hoped to chat with Blake and close the distance between them, but he fell asleep the moment he got in.
She awkwardly sat there, fiddling with her newly done nails.
Not a word was exchanged until they arrived.
Just as they were about to get out, Freya planned to pretend to twist her ankle and fall against Blake, hoping to cling to him and make him show concern.
If people saw him caring for her, they’d acknowledge her as a true Lambert family daughter.
As for Skylar, Freya would try to keep her away from Blake. That way, she could solidify her identity as the only young lady in the Lambert family.
If Skylar tried to approach, then however others interpreted that wouldn’t be her problem.
Smiling to herself, Freya began to act. But as she stumbled forward, Blake dodged her.
She lost her balance and fell flat on the ground.
Freya was about to cry out for Blake, but saw him catching up to Skylar, letting her take his arm as they walked in together.
Sitting on the ground, she felt everyone’s curious stares.
A wave of shame washed over her. She gritted her teeth, got up, and hurried to catch up.
“Blake,” she called out loudly. “My leg’s hurt.”
People nearby turned to look.
Freya continued, “It hurts a lot. Can you help me walk?”
Blake’s cold eyes landed on her. Meeting his clear gaze, she felt a pang of guilt.
“Blake…” she stammered.

Chapter 139
Both Blake and Skylar knew exactly what Freya was trying to pull. But they didn’t want to make a scene in public.
Skylar let go of his arm.
Blake frowned slightly and went to help Freya.
Freya gave a small smile. “Thank you.”
Skylar led Adam, who was wearing a blue cap and matching mask, into the venue and casually found a seat.
Freya finally got to sit next to Blake. She could feel the curious glances from the crowd and straightened her posture, adopting a perfect lady’s demeanor.
Everyone knew Blake, but not the girl beside him.
“Strange. I’ve never seen Mr. Lambert bring a girl out before.”
“I guess she’s his sister. She must be the youngest daughter.”
“I’ve never heard of another daughter from the Lambert family.”
“Well, with the Lambert family’s wealth, the fewer people who know, the safer.”
“Exactly. Wouldn’t want some criminals targeting her to threaten the Lambert family.
The engagement ceremony hadn’t started yet. The guests chatted among themselves.
Freya occasionally heard people discussing her and stole a glance at Blake. Seeing his calm expression, she quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
The host walked onto the stage with a microphone, proceeding through the formalities. Finally, they reached the main event. “Now, let’s welcome our leading couple. Mr. Yosef Campbell and Ms. Elianna Stone.”
Yosef and Elianna entered from behind the door.
Yosef’s face was blank. Elianna wore a flawless smile under her perfectly done makeup.
She held onto his arm, looking bashful.
The moment she saw Skylar, she lifted her chin proudly, eyes gleaming with triumph.
