Chapter 138
Chapter 138
Elianna’s eyelids were fighting each other as sleep overwhelmed her, but she forced herself to stay awake and glanced at her phone. It was already 2 am.
Yosef still hadn’t shown up.
She thought, ‘At this hour, he should’ve been. Could it be that he didn’t drink that glass of milk?‘
Then, there was the sound of the door opening.
Elianna quickly turned off her phone and hid under the blanket.
Yosef turned on the light, and a shadow leaped off the bed and rushed toward him.
Yosef immediately grabbed Elianna by the neck. She was choking so hard her eyes rolled back. “Yosef…”
Her crushed throat barely managed to squeeze out two syllables.
Yosef let go. “What are you doing in my room?”
His eyes swept downward, and a storm suddenly brewed in them. “You even dressed like this. What exactly do you want in my room?”
“Yosef, ever since that time, we haven’t done anything again. I thought…” Elianna gently tugged on his tie with her fingers.
Her eyes were seductive, shimmering with flirtation and allure.
She reached out, trying to wrap her arms around Yosef’s neck, but he caught her hand. “It’s late. I’m tired. Another day.”
Elianna didn’t want to give up and pouted. “Yosef, don’t you really want to?”
“Elianna, I said I’m tired.” His voice was cold.
Elianna shuddered instinctively. She bit her lip, eyes turning slightly wet, “I understand.”
She walked out of the room and stomped her foot in frustration. Damn it.
Yosef didn’t drink that glass of milk. She should’ve watched him drink it.
No matter. Once they’re engaged, she’ll have plenty of opportunities.
She returned to her room, tidied up a bit, and went to bed.
The next morning, during breakfast, Elianna received a call from Aaron.
Feeling guilty, she glanced at Yosef and quickly declined the call, putting the phone aside.
She asked, “Yosef, are we going to try on the engagement outfits today?”
Yosef picked up a napkin and wiped the corner of his mouth. “They’ll deliver the outfits. Try them on yourself. I’m going to the office.”
Elianna asked, “Busy lately?”
Yosef nodded. “Yeah. There’s a big project.”
Elianna looked disappointed.
Yosef didn’t notice. “I’m heading out.”

Elianna forced a smile and stood up. “I’ll see you off.”
Once he was completely out of sight, she turned back to the table and picked up her buzzing phone. “Why are you calling me non–stop?”
Aaron sneered. “Don’t forget. We’re allies now. I helped you last time. Now it’s your turn.”
Elianna was annoyed. “What do you want me to do?”
Aaron said, “Yosef is currently negotiating a business deal with foreigners. This project could determine whether Campbell Group can expand into overseas markets. If he succeeds, I don’t stand a chance.”

Elianna crossed her arms, looking coldly out at the lively garden. “So what do you want me to do?”
Aaron replied, “I want his project proposal.”
Elianna frowned. “Are you crazy? How am I supposed to get that?”
Aaron chuckled. “That’s your problem.”
Elianna opened her mouth to curse, but was met with a dial tone.
She was so furious that she almost crushed her phone.
If she had known she’d have to do something this risky, she would’ve never agreed to cooperate with Aaron.
But it was too late now. She had no choice but to figure out how to get the proposal and send its contents to him.
That evening, when Yosef got home, Elianna greeted him with excessive enthusiasm. “Yosef, you’re back! I cooked tonight and made soup just for you. You have to try it.”
She was more enthusiastic than usual, which made Yosef suspicious. Something was off.
He didn’t say much, simply observed and sat down as she served him soup.
Elianna looked expectant. “Go on. Try it.”
Yosef stirred it with a spoon and took a sip. “Not bad.”
Elianna beamed. “If it’s good, drink more.”
Under her eager gaze, he finished half the bowl.
Elianna bit her lip. “There’s still half left. Not drinking it?”
He started eating.
Elianna looked worried. ‘Just half a bowl. Was it enough?‘
She fiddled with her spoon distractedly, occasionally stealing glances at Yosef.
He noticed all her little gestures and quietly lowered his gaze.
After dinner, Elianna kept nervously picking at her fingers.
Yosef watched the evening news for a while, then went upstairs.
Elianna waited a bit, then followed.
She opened the study door and saw Yosef slumped over the desk.

She let out a sigh of relief. It worked. Tiptoeing inside, she started searching the study.
Finally, she found the project proposal under Yosef. She carefully lifted his body and slid the document out.
Her heart pounded wildly, as if it might leap out of her chest.
Elianna placed the proposal on the sofa and took pictures of each page with her phone.
Once done, she tucked it back under Yosef.
Back in her room, she sent all the photos to Aaron and deleted the chat history.
She clutched her phone, still uneasy.
Tomorrow was the engagement ceremony. She hoped nothing could go wrong.
Aaron received the project info and used it to contact the foreign partners ahead of time.
After getting a response, his face was full of smugness. “Yosef, no matter how capable you are, the Campbell Group will still end up in my hands.”
He laughed gleefully before calling his associates to prepare for the coming battle.
Blake received word from Aaron.
Though the Campbell and Lambert families had long been at odds, Aaron lowered himself to seek cooperation to take over the Campbell Group.
Thinking of the “dirt” he had dug up in recent days, Blake chuckled. “What’s a show without a proper appetizer?”
The next day, Elianna was up at 4 am to get ready at the hotel for the engagement ceremony.
Apart from her wedding, it was the most glorious day of her life. She had to prepare well.
She was going to slap all those who had looked down on her. She would make them see just how dazzling she had become.
“Is everything ready?”
Hudson nodded. “Rest assured, Mr. Campbell.”
Yosef rubbed his fingers together, his gaze deep. “Let’s hope Aaron enjoys the show I’ve prepared.”
At the Lambert family residence. Blake set down his coffee with a smile. “Skylar, want to come watch a show with me?”
Skylar raised a brow. “What show?”
Blake said, “You’ll know when you get there.”
She thought for a moment. “Sure.”
Humans were naturally curious, and she was dying to know what kind of “good show” her brother meant.
On the side, Freya sat sulking.
‘Why didn’t Blake ask me? Why only take Skylar?‘ She was clearly upset.
Her knife scraped sharply against the porcelain plate, making a piercing sound.

Blake’s cold eyes swept over. “What’s wrong?”
Freya looked pitiful and apologized, “I spaced out, sorry. Blake, where are you going? Can I come too?”
