Chapter 13
Skylar watched Freya’s solo performance, then gave a faint smile. “You think I have to take whatever you throw at me? Who made that rule?
She nudged the pile with her foot, her tone dismissive. “And honestly? This stuff’s no better than trash to me.
Her gaze, cold and unimpressed, hit a nerve. Freya’s face twisted with rage, and she swung her hand, alming a slap at Skylar’s cheek
Skylar caught her wrist mid air, twisting it hard. “Still haven’t learned your lesson?”
Freya struggled, her defiance flaring. “Let go, or
or I’ll call Mom and Dadi Let them see what a monster you are!”
“Go ahead,” Skylar said, her tone mocking “I’d love
see you try to spin this”
Freya’s anger exploded. “Skylar, you bitch, let me go!”
“Dad! Mom! Help!” she wailed, her voice echoing through the house.
Yana and Carlos were downstairs, practically glowing with joy at having their daughter home.
They sipped drinks and munched on pastries, soaking in the moment.
A sharp scream from upstairs broke the peace.
They jumped up, shared a quick look, and rushed up the stairs.
At the top, they found their daughters standing side by side, hands clasped.
“Skylar, what just happened?” Yana asked, her brow creasing with worry.
Skylar’s face was calm as ever. “Nothing”
Yana wasn’t buying it, her eyes narrowing. “Then what was that scream?” she pressed.
Skylar tilted her head, a slight smirk tugging at her lips. “I was just telling Freya a horrible story. Guess I spooked her. Right, Freya?”
She leaned on the word “right,” her voice carrying just enough bite to sting.
Freya’s temple throbbed, her jaw tight as she tried to pull her hand free from Skylar’s grip.
She squirmed subtly, but Skylar’s hold only tightened, unyielding.
Giving up, Freya forced a smile through clenched teeth. “Yeah, her story got me good. Couldn’t help but yelp”
Yana eyed them, suspicion flickering in her gaze, but she let it slide. “Wright, I thought something was wrong”
Her eyes caught the pile of clothes and jewelry scattered on the floor. “What’s all this doing on the ground?”
Skylar shrugged, her voice casual. “She said I’d never seen stuff like this before, so she pulled these out for me. I didn’t catch them, and they fell
The items were obviously the leftovers of Freya’s fancy closet, far from her best stuff
Yana’s face darkened as she put it together. “Freya, how could you give Skylar these?”
Freya’s eyes darted nervously. “I figured she wouldn’t want hand–me–downs. These are brand new, so I thought they’d be perfect for her.”
The excuse was weak but passable, and vana didn’t dig deeper.

“Fine,” she said, waving it off, “Next time, take Skylar shopping and let her pick what she likes”
She paused, then backtracked. “Actually, forget that I’ll take her myself”
Yana grabbed Skylar’s hand, her face lighting up. “I’ve got a black card, sweetheart. Anything you want, it’s yours.
Freya’s blood boiled, her frustration spiking.
The Lamberts spoiled their daughters, sure, but there were rules.
Monthly allowances came with strict limits–no wild spending.
Yet here was Skylar, barely back, and Yana was ready to throw those rules out the window.
‘Blood’s thicker than water, huh?‘ Freya thought bitterly. “Favoritism clear as day!
Her teeth ground together, her fists clenching tight.
Just then, Skylar’s voice cut through the tension, bright and deliberate. “Mom, Dad, she said I could have this room.”
Freya’s head whipped up, her voice shrill. “When did I ever say that?”
Skylar widened her eyes, faking surprise. “Didn’t you say I could ask you for anything?”
She bit her lip, shrinking back as if intimidated. “You said this room gets the best light, and I love a sunny space.”
Her tone turned pleading. “Asking for a room isn’t too much, is it?”
Freya lost it, her voice hitting a screech. “This is my room! How dare you try to take it?”
