Chapter 109
Chapter 109
She’d been passing herself off as Sapphire for years without anyone catching on, which just went to show what a skilled liar she was.
Victor wasn’t entirely convinced. His gaze was intense. “What kind of illness? Have you seen a doctor?”
Freya nodded slightly. “I have. The doctor said I have bipolar disorder.”
She looked down, nervously twisting a corner of the blanket in her hands. “Because of this illness, I’m always feeling down, my thoughts race, and I can’t control my emotions.
“I had an episode just now. That’s why I lost control and pushed Skylar.
“I completely blacked out. It wasn’t until I hit the ground and saw the car coming that I snapped out of it. Then I fainted from shock.”
Tears streamed down her face as she spoke, soaking a patch of the blanket.
She looked up, her eyes glistening. “Victor, I never meant to hurt Skylar. I wouldn’t dare try to kill anyone, no matter how reckless I can be.”
Victor’s eyelids drooped slightly, his mind a jumble.
Once he’d collected his thoughts, he looked up at Freya. “How did you end up with something like this?”
‘Bipolar disorder isn’t something you just get,‘ he thought. He suspected Freya was making it up to avoid punishment.
Victor said calmly, “Alright, to rule out a misdiagnosis, I’ll have another doctor examine you.”
Freya’s heart skipped a beat, a flicker of panic in her eyes, but she quickly composed herself.
“Okay, whatever you say, Victor.” Freya replied softly, forcing a compliant smile.
Victor acknowledged coolly.
He got up and left the room to arrange for further tests.
It took a while to complete all the examinations.
They wouldn’t get the results until the next afternoon.
To ensure the results were genuine and untampered with, Victor stayed by Freya’s side, not leaving for a moment.
Freya, feigning concern, urged him, “Victor, you’re still not fully recovered yourself. You don’t need to stay here with me.”
Victor was unmoved. “I know my own body. I’ll be fine.”
Freya bit her tongue. “Well, thank you then, Victor.”
She lay down, her mind racing, trying to figure out a plan.
After a moment, she picked up her phone and sent a message.
The person agreed to help but demanded a fortune.
Freya was furious, but to get through this, she had no choice but to agree.
The next afternoon, Freya’s test results were delivered to her room on schedule.

Victor took them and carefully looked through them.
Freya pressed her lips together, her heart pounding in her chest like a drum.
Her palms were clammy with sweat.
“This looks pretty serious,” Victor said, placing the report aside. “Did this start when Skylar came back?”
The report was clean; Freya breathed a sigh of relief.
She remained silent for a long moment, then looked up with a bitter smile. “When Skylar first came back, I wanted to get along with her. But there was always this voice in my head telling me that the family would abandon me.
“I was constantly terrified, so scared I couldn’t sleep at night. Gradually, my mental state deteriorated, and I started lashing out.”
Her voice choked with emotion. “I thought it was just insomnia at first. I started taking sleeping pills to get some rest, but even then, I’d barely sleep and would wake up startled.
“Eventually, I couldn’t take it anymore, so I saw a doctor, and they told me I was sick.”
“Why didn’t you tell the family?” Victor sighed. “Joshua is a doctor, and Skylar’s pretty good with medicine too. If you’d told us, we would have done everything we could to help you get better.”
Freya’s tears flowed uncontrollably.
Sobbing, she spoke in broken sentences, “I… I didn’t want to bother you. And I was even more afraid that if you knew I was sick, you’d… you’d resent me
and kick me out.”
Ever since Victor had seen her shove Skylar into the path of an oncoming car, nearly killing her, any lingering sympathy he might have had for Freya had
vanished.
He watched her cry with a cold expression, and when he’d had enough, he said flatly, “Stop crying.
“When Joshua gets back, I’ll have him take a look at you. If he can’t help, we’ll find another doctor.”
Freya immediately shook her head, pleading pitifully, “Victor, please don’t bother Joshua. I’m already on medication. I’ll get better. I don’t want them to
know.”
Victor didn’t quite understand. “Why can’t
you
tell them?”
“Victor, I don’t want to be treated differently because I’m sick. And I don’t want to steal Mom and Dad’s attention because of my illness, making Skylar feel neglected.” Freya looked at him imploringly. “Victor, please promise me.”
Since she insisted, Victor didn’t press the issue of telling the family. “Suit yourself,” he said tonelessly.
Seeing him agree, Freya finally relaxed.
She hesitated. “Victor, about what happened today… Vowe Skylar an apology. I’ll go talk to her. Can we… can we not tell Mom and Dad about this?”
If an illness had caused her to act irrationally, then perhaps she wasn’t entirely to blame.
Victor neither nodded nor shook his head. “I can keep it quiet, but Skylar was the one who almost got hit. You need to talk to her and see what she thinks.”
Freya nodded. “I’ll talk to Skylar properly.”
With the test results in and Freya seemingly okay, they completed the
discharge procedures and went home.
The news of Freya impersonating Sapphire had exploded online, and everyone in the Lambert family knew Freya had stolen Skylar’s identity as
46%

Sapphire.
When Carlos saw her, he first asked a few concerned questions before getting to the point. “Why did you lie?”
Freya sniffled, then started to sob. “Dad, it wasn’t my idea. My editor made me do it.
“He said Sapphire hadn’t registered an X account, so we could exploit that loophole to use her identity to promote my book.
“I was just too desperate for success, too eager to get ahead. I know I was wrong now.”
Yana shook her head. “Freya, you’ve disappointed me deeply.
“We’ve given you more than one chance. And what did you do?
“You’ve hurt Skylar again and again. How can we possibly keep trusting you?”
Freya panicked, dropping to her knees. “Mom, I swear I know I was wrong! Please, don’t kick me out!”
“I…” Her breathing hitched, and she suddenly looked unwell.
Victor quickly grabbed her arm, whispering soothingly in her ear, “Don’t get agitated. Control your emotions. I’ll take you upstairs. Take your medicine and calm down.”
Freya bit her lip.
“Mom, Dad, please stop,” Victor interjected. “Freya knows she was wrong. Let’s give her one last chance.
“Freya’s not feeling well. I’ll take her upstairs to rest for a bit.”
He helped Freya upstairs and watched her take her medication before going back down.
