Chapter 41: A War of Words and a Dinner of Deception
Chapter 41: A War of Words and a Dinner of Deception
(Olivia’s POV)
I calmly placed the crystal design magazine back on the shelf after Victoria’s emotional outburst. Her jealousy was almost amusing.
“What’s wrong. Victoria?” I asked, deliberately keeping my voice light. “Are you worried?”
Victoria’s perfectly sculpted eyebrows drew together in confusion before her face contorted with anger.
“I have nothing to be anxious about…” she started defensively, then stopped abruptly as realization dawned
on her face.
I couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at my lips. She’d fallen right into my trap, effectively admitting to be worried – a derogatory term implying she was desperate and territorial.
Fury flashed in Victoria’s eyes. She lunged at me with a snarl, her manicured nails aimed at my face.
I moved quickly, catching her wrists and pinning her against the bookshelf. Several crystal samples rattled precariously on their shelves.
“Let me go!” she hissed, struggling against my grip.
My emerald eyes locked with hers. Despite my status as a Luna without favor, I was still physically stronger
than her.
“Victoria Frost,” I said, my voice dropping to an icy whisper, “Seduce him? He doesn’t deserve it.”
Victoria’s face paled with rage. She twisted violently in my grip.
I released her and stepped back, returning to my work organizing the crystal samples as if nothing had
happened,
“You’ll regret this,” Victoria spat, straightening her designer blouse. “You think you’re so clever, don’t you?”
I continued sorting through the samples, not bothering to look at her.
“You know what your problem is, Olivia?” Victoria continued, her voice gaining confidence. “You rely too much on that old woman’s protection.”
My hands stilled on a moonstone crystal.
“When Grandmother passes, who will protect you then?” she sneered, her perfectly manicured nails digging
into her palms.
Something snapped inside me. I grabbed the magazine from the shelf and hurled it at Victoria. It hit her squarely in the mouth.
“Don’t you dare speak about Matriarch Stone that way,” I growled, advancing on her. “She’s healthy and will live for many more years.”
Victoria touched her lip where the magazine had struck, her eyes widening in shock.
“Unlike you, Victoria,” I continued, “I don’t need to rely on my looks to secure my position. Your beauty won’t

last forever. And when it fades, what will you have to offer Ethan?”
I walked past her, my shoulders squared with dignity, and left the materials room without a backward glance.
(Victoria’s POV)
That insufferable woman! I dabbed at my lip, checking for blood on my fingertip.
How dare she attack me? I was Victoria Frost, beloved of Alpha King Ethan Stone. I wouldn’t let this
humiliation stand,
I took several deep breaths, composing myself before returning to the main office. A plan was already forming in my mind.
Gregory Hayes approached as I emerged from the materials room. “Mrs. Frost, are you alright? You look
flushed.”
I gave him my most dazzling smile. “I’m perfectly fine, just excited about my first day”
The afternoon passed quickly as I charmed my way through the office, making connections and establishing myself as someone of importance.
By the end of the day, I had the perfect opportunity to demonstrate my superiority over Olivia.
“Everyone, I announced with practiced casualness as we were preparing to leave, “I’d like to invite you all to
dinner at Amber Crest Restaurant tonight.”
Excited murmurs spread through the office.
“Ethan has reserved the private dining room for us, I continued, watching their eyes widen. “He wanted to celebrate my–our–first day at Canis Enterprises.”
Amanda Fletcher was the first to accept. “How generous of Alpha King Stone! I’d be delighted to join.”
One by one, our colleagues eagerly agreed. Even Sophia Hughes couldn’t hide her excitement at the prospect of dining at such an exclusive establishment.
Only Olivia remained silent, her face carefully blank.
“You’ll join us too, won’t you, Olivia?” I asked sweetly, making sure everyone could hear. “After all, we’re colleagues now.
She met my gaze steadily. “Of course, Victoria. I wouldn’t miss it.”
Amber Crest Restaurant was the crown jewel of Shadow Creek. As we entered the elegant establishment, I watched with satisfaction as my colleagues gasped at the inlaid walls and crystal chandeliers.
The maître d‘ recognized me immediately. “Mrs. Frost, welcome back. Alpha King Stone’s private dining room is prepared as requested.”
I led our group through the restaurant, enjoying the envious glances from other diners. The private dining room, known as the “Moonlight Chamber,” was exclusive to Ethan and had never been opened to the public.
“Please, make yourselves comfortable,” I said, gesturing to the plush chairs around the large table. “Order whatever you’d like. After all,” I purred, glancing at Olivia, “Ethan is paying.”
I instructed the waiter to bring wine from Ethan’s private cellar and several menus.
“The venison with moonberry sauce is excellent,” I suggested, watching Olivia from the corner of my eye.

Chapter 41 A War of Wor
To my annoyance, Olivia calmly ordered several venison dishes. She seemed completely unaffected by my attempt to intimidate her.
As we ate, I noticed Olivia checking her phone repeatedly. When it vibrated with an incoming message, a slight change came over her face.
“Excuse me,” she said, rising from her sent. I need to use the restroom.”
I watched as she walked not toward the restrooms, but toward the exit.
Suspicious, I excused myself and followed her. She was heading through the garden outside the restaurant, moving quickly as if to meet someone.
I caught up to her near a moonlit fountain. “Running off to meet my man? I hissed, grabbing her arm. Olivia turned, her emerald eyes flashing with irritation. “Your man? Strange, I don’t recall seeing your wedding
ceremony.”
Her sarcasm infuriated me. “Don’t play dumb, Olivia. I know you’re trying to intercept Ethan.”
She pulled her arm free from my grip. “And what right do you have to interfere if I am?”
“He loves me,” I insisted, my voice rising despite my efforts to stay calm. “He always has.”
Olivia’s laugh was short and bitter. “Is that why he rushes to your side at every call? Or is it because you’ve manipulated him for years, using Emma as bait?”
“He may be bound to you by some ancient tradition,” I spat, “but his heart belongs to me. It always has, and it always will.”
(Olivia’s POV)
Victoria’s declaration hung in the air between us. Her desperation was almost palpable. “Is that what you tell yourself at night?” I asked quietly. “That his heart belongs to you?”
Victoria’s face flushed with anger. “I don’t need to tell myself anything. I know it’s true.”
I shook my head, almost pitying her. “If you were so confident, you wouldn’t be following me around like a suspicious mate.”
My phone vibrated again. James was waiting for me at the corner, as we’d arranged.
‘Enjoy your dinner, Victoria,” I said, turning to leave. “I’ve lost my appetite.”
til you admit you
Victoria grabbed my wrist, her nails digging into my skin. “You’re not going anywhere. Not until you were planning to meet Ethan.”
I twisted free from her grasp. “I don’t owe you any explanations.”

“He’ll never love you,” Victoria hissed, her composure cracking. “No matter what you do, he’ll always
back to me.”
I met her gaze steadily. “Is that why you’re so afraid whenever we’re alone together? Because deep down, you know your hold on him isn’t as strong as you pretend?”
Victoria’s face paled. “You’re delusional.”
“Am I?” I challenged. “Then why did you call him last night when he was with me? Why do you constantly need

to remind everyone of your connection to him?”
Victoria stepped closer, her voice dropping to a venomous whisper. “Your daughter is dead, Olivia She’s gone and nothing will bring her back. Not Ethan’s attention, not his love, nothing”
The mention of Lily sent a wave of cold fury through me. I fought to keep my expression neutral.
“Your man? Strange, I don’t recall seeing your wedding ceremony” I replied coolly, deliberately changing the subject away from my daughter.
Victoria’s eyes narrowed. “He may be bound to you by some ancient tradition,” she spat, “but his heart belongs to me. It always has, and it always will.”
