Chapter 215: Fare
Chapter 215: Fare
(Third person’s POV)
But Evelyn didn’t think of him, but James Knight. She remembered that this adopted pack member was not blood–related to her daughter, but he was better than any biological sibling could have been.
“James.”
“Here I am, Luna Evelyn.” James Knight responded crisply.
He paused briefly as he brushed past Ethan Stone. Without any politeness, he pulled out several high–denomination bills from his wallet and stuffed them into Ethan’s suit pocket.
“Fare.”
After stuffing it, he walked cheerfully towards Evelyn and the others. The four of them walked into the entrance door with laughter and harmony, leaving Ethan alone in the cold night air.
He stood there, maintaining the same posture for a long time, his wolf whining softly beneath his skin. The sound of their laughter echoed in the hallway, a stark reminder of his isolation.
Stepping inside, Olivia Winters immediately noticed the change. She hadn’t had time to clean, so she contacted the territory management to find a cleaning service.
It had been a while since she’d been back. Looking at the newly renovated entrance hall and the elevator, James Knight, who had been there before, also noticed and couldn’t help but sigh.
“Did your territory management suddenly grow a conscience?”
Olivia didn’t respond, but she had a feeling it was Ethan. Because Ethan knew that after her mother was discharged from the Silvercrest Pack Medical Den, Olivia wouldn’t continue living in Lucas Blackwood’s territory, and would definitely return to Maple Grove.
An old neighborhood where the sensor lights and elevators often broke down. While climbing stairs might be okay for young wolves, Ethan worried about Evelyn’s health.
He arranged for the best territory management to move in, renovating the environment, common areas, and elevators. He wanted to make Evelyn as comfortable as possible, his wolf’s protective instincts extending to his mate’s mother despite their estrangement.
The elevator doors opened to reveal piles of items on both sides. Maxwell Chen stepped forward respectfully. “Luna Evelyn, Miss Winters, these are the necessities that Alpha King Stone personally purchased for Luna Evelyn.”
He then handed over several territory ownership certificates. “These territories are specially selected by Alpha King Stone for Luna Evelyn, and they have been transferred to Miss Winters‘ name.”
“Luna Evelyn and Miss Winters can move in whenever they wish.”
Evelyn was touched, remembering Ethan’s silent concern for her illness. He had arranged the best moonlight herb specialist and healing touch therapist, picked her up from the medical den, and prepared all the

necessities she needed.
He was trying to make amends. However, she didn’t show it, only glancing at the items before looking away
“We’ll accept the things,” she said. “Tell your Alpha Stone not to think he can be forgiven by Olivia and me with just these things.”
“This is what he owes my daughter!”
James took the territory certificates before Olivia could decide, and issued an eviction order. He would take the things, but Ethan shouldn’t dream of softening Evelyn and Olivia.
Maxwell, surprised at how easily they accepted the gifts, took his leave after James pressed the elevator button. His wolf sensed the underlying tension despite their acceptance.
As the elevator doors closed, Olivia didn’t contradict James, understanding his feelings. He felt Ethan had hurt her during their five years together, and wanted Ethan to pay for it all.
“Why be against resources?” James said, handing the territory certificates to Olivia, who accepted them. Evelyn, worried about Lucas Blackwood’s reaction, explained that accepting the gifts didn’t mean forgiving Ethan. Her voice carried the weight of years of disappointment.
Lucas reassured her, saying that the things were Olivia’s due as Ethan’s true mate, regardless of their current estrangement. His wolf remained calm, understanding pack politics better than most.
Lucas Blackwood received a call from his beta, Thomas Griffin, asking whether to send the moonlight herbs he had prepared. Noticing the already ample supply, he declined.
James overheard and insisted on the products being delivered. “Evelyn doesn’t consume just any herbs.” “She prefers Lucas’s gifts over Ethan’s, which should be sent to the elder care facility.”
Thomas was instructed to send the items immediately. His loyalty to Lucas meant swift execution of orders. Downstairs, Ethan watched as the items he had bought were sent away. His wolf retreated deeper within him as rejection cut through his chest.
James told him, “Ethan Stone, late affection is cheaper than grass. Neither Lily’s death nor the harm you caused Olivia can be reversed.”
“Olivia will not forgive you, and Luna Evelyn will not forgive you. Everything you do is in vain.”
Ethan didn’t reply, but didn’t stop them from sending the things away. His amber eyes tracked every movement as his carefully chosen gifts disappeared.
Soon, Thomas arrived with the same moonlight herbs. The irony wasn’t lost on anyone present.
Ethan’s heart sank, his wolf retreating deeper within him. The message was clear – Lucas’s gifts were welcome, his were not.
The expensive herbs he’d personally selected were being replaced by identical ones from his rival. His jaw clenched as he watched Thomas efficiently unload the packages.
Maxwell Chen approached cautiously, sensing his Alpha’s distress. “Alpha Stone, should we-”
“No.” Ethan’s voice was hollow. “Let them have what they want.”
He turned away from the building, his shoulders rigid with suppressed emotion. Every step away from Maple

Grove felt like another nail in the coffin of his relationship with Olivia.
His wolf howled silently within him, mourning the loss of what could have been. The scent of his mate still lingered in his car, a bittersweet reminder of their brief time together.
James watched from the window above, satisfaction evident in his expression. He’d made his point clear- Ethan’s money couldn’t buy forgiveness.
“The Alpha’s learning,” he murmured to himself. “But it’s too little, too late.”
Inside the apartment, Evelyn settled into her chair, surrounded by Lucas’s gifts instead of Ethan’s. The symbolism wasn’t lost on anyone.
Olivia remained silent, her emotions a tangled mess of anger, grief, and something she refused to acknowledge as longing. Her wolf stirred restlessly beneath her skin.
Lucas’s presence provided comfort without pressure, his steady support a stark contrast to Ethan’s desperate gestures. His wolf projected calm, soothing pheromones that helped ease the tension.
“Thank you,” Olivia whispered to Lucas, her voice barely audible.
He squeezed her hand gently. “Always.”
Outside, Ethan sat in his car for long minutes, staring up at the lit windows of Olivia’s apartment. His wolf pressed against his consciousness, desperate to return to his mate.
But James’s words echoed in his mind. Everything he did was in vain.
The realization hit him like a physical blow. No amount of money, no gesture of care, could undo the damage he’d caused.
His phone buzzed with pack business, but he ignored it. For once, the Alpha King felt powerless.
Maxwell approached the car hesitantly. “Alpha Stone? The pack council is waiting.”
Ethan started the engine without a word.
As they drove away from Maple Grove, Ethan caught one last glimpse of the apartment building in his rearview mirror. The lights in Olivia’s window seemed to mock him.
His heart sank, his wolf retreating deeper within him.
