My Sister’s Dying 17

My Sister’s Dying 17

Chapter 10

Dad’s joy was visible to the naked eye as he carefully supported Quinn, terrified something might happen to her.

Quinn looked pale but wore a gentle smile, seeming to anticipate the baby’s arrival as well.

I was the only one who seemed out of place.

“Lincoln, the doctor said that for someone my age, there’s still a pretty high chance of losing the baby. I’m so scared, Lincoln…”

“Don’t talk nonsense! Our baby will definitely be born safe and sound.”

“Lincoln, I’m really tired now. Can you help me to the bedroom to rest?”

I stood in the living room, watching them shamelessly display their affection right in front of me.

When Dad came to knock on my door, I thought to myself: Here it comes, just as expected.

I opened the door and we sat in the living room. Quinn didn’t come out to supervise-she trusted Dad now.

“Sienna, your Aunt Quinn isn’t in good health, and there’s no one to take care of her while she’s pregnant.”

“Could you maybe take a year off school to help Dad out by taking care of Aunt Quinn for a year?”

“Dad promises you, as soon as your aunt safely delivers the baby, I’ll get you back in school immediately.”

I stared at Dad in shock.

I’d thought he might make me board at school, or even kick me out to live with Mom, but I never imagined he could be this shameless! Making a middle school kid take a year off to care for his new wife through her pregnancy!

“Dad! Am I even your real daughter!”

I couldn’t help shouting, unable to pretend or act weak anymore.

Dad’s response was a slap across my face.

I couldn’t take it anymore and ran out of the house into the night.

I came to the old house where my mother lived.

I thought, worst case scenario, I’d just be selfish and go back to living off Mom.

I was more mature and sensible than in my past life at this age-I wouldn’t be too much of a burden on Mom.

I could even help her work so she wouldn’t be so tired.

I gave myself a pep talk, listing all the benefits, but when I heard Mom’s voice from upstairs, I still hid.
