Chapter 6: I Won’t Marry
The maid looked somewhat similar to Ella, and everyone quickly realized they had made a big mistake, However, no one apologized. Liam even insinuated, “Don’t blame others for mistaking you. You know clearly what you’ve done in the past.”
What had she done? Hurt Natalie? Everyone thought Ella had been trying to frame Natalie all along. Fine, let this stigma be confirmed today!
Suddenly, Ella grabbed Natalie’s wrist and dragged her upstairs. This behavior was so abnormal. It was like she had gone mad, something they had never seen before. Natalie initially wanted to struggle, but when she saw Liam coming after them, her gaze flickered, and she obediently followed
behind Ella.
“What are you doing? Don’t drag Natalie with you if you want to go crazy! Let go!” Liam rushed forward, pulling Ella away with a harsh grip, his cold eyes scanning her face.
Suddenly, Liam froze. What did he see? Tears? Ella was crying? How could she be crying? A sense of unease rose in his chest, but it was quickly replaced by shock.
The three of them were at a stairwell. In the scuffle, Ella suddenly lost her balance and tumbled down the stairs! In that instant, Liam had the chance to catch her. But Natalie suddenly cried out in pain, distracting him. By the time he turned back, it was too late. Liam, choosing to let go of her and protect Natalie, had already sealed her fate.
The process of falling was agonizing. Ella hit the metal railing several times, and her head felt like it was going to explode from the pain. But she gritted her teeth and made no sound. This was what she deserved. She deserved it. Falling for Liam, that was her sin. Now, she fell, and at last, she was
awake.
The people around were shocked, seeing Ella lying on the ground, unable to get up. They scrambled to call an ambulance. Lydia was also shaken. She hurried to Ella, trying to help her up. Ella gently pushed her away. She paused for a moment, waiting for the dizziness in her head to pass, then quietly climbed up by herself.
She stood unsteadily in the hall, her head ringing. Ella had always been afraid of pain, but now she said nothing. This level of pain was nothing compared to what she’d endured in prison for three years. She was used to it. It was nothing. Just endure it, and it would pass.
Her eyes, now cold and distant, fell on Liam’s face. There was no warmth, no affection Just
indifference, like she was looking at a stranger she didn’t know. Their eyes met, and Liam frowned.
It was the first time Ella had shown him such indifference
“I won’t marry him.” In the hall after a brief silence. Damian and Lydia finally reacted. They thought they had heard wrong. “What did you say?”
Ella repeated. Tm calling off the engagement with Liam. Whoever wants to marry him, go ahead. I think he and Natalie are a perfect match. I’ll step aside.”
Damian frowned. “Ella, what nonsense are you talking about? Did your brain get damaged from the
fall? You say you won’t marry, so you won’t?”
“Is it because you’re jealous of your sister? They’re just getting closer due to work. Is that worth you getting jealous over?”
Lydia added. “Don’t you know how Natalie is? She’s always been considerate of you. Would she fight
over Liam with you?”
Ella glanced at her parents, then at Natalie. How ironic. Natalie didn’t need to say a word. Her parents always spoke for her. Ella tugged at her lips, a faint mocking smile appeared.
This is no joke, and it’s not jealousy. From now on, I’m severing all ties with Liam. The engagement
is canceled.”
Liam impatiently tugged at his tie; “Ella, what are you making a scene about now?”
Ella chuckled bitterly. “Making a scene?”
‘Liam, does that mean because I love you, I’m beneath you? Am I guilty?”
‘You can’t see my heartbreak, you can’t see my sorrow, and you think I’m just throwing a tantrum?”
‘Actually, I’ve wanted to ask you for a long time! You left your fiancée to protect another woman. Did you even think about how I would feel?”
‘Also, how could you just casually give me to someone else?”
Remembering what she heard earlier from Liam and his friends, Ella’s heart turned cold.
‘It was just a joke between friends. You can’t take a joke?”

Natalie signaled to the onlookers, “Ella, your willfulness will make outsiders laugh at our family.”
“This family is already a joke,” Ella shot back. “I’ve never seen a family that crushes its own
biological daughter for the adopted one. After all this, you’re still worried about what outsiders will
think?”
Damian slapped Ella’s face in a rage. His chest heaved, his eyes turning red as he glared at her.
“You’re being rebellious!”
Ella’s cheek burned, but she held back the sting in her eyes.
Damian ground his teeth. “Do you think that if you cancel the engagement, anyone will dare to marry you? Who would risk offending the Byrne family to marry you?”
“Besides, you’ve been to prison. In elite circles, who would marry a woman who has been in jail!”
Ella felt disappointed in her family. She had no words left for them. With disappointment piling up,
she no longer wanted to argue about anything.
She turned and walked out. It started raining heavily outside. She walked into the curtain of rain, heedless of getting drenched. She let herself get soaked, but she felt freer than ever.
Perhaps it was the darkness of the night, but Ella didn’t notice the black car parked nearby. Inside the car, a man in a white shirt leaned back, casually holding a cigarette between his lips, the red tip glowing in the dark. When the cigarette was finished, he exhaled a puff of white smoke.
After a while, an assistant walked up. The assistant, Finn Gallagher, whispered something, and
Marcus’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
“The situation’s roughly like this.” Finn also found tonight’s events bizarre. The Rossi family’s biological daughter was being bullied, yet they supported the adopted daughter. What’s wrong with this family?
Finn glanced at Marcus’s face, then at Ella’s fading figure in the distance. “Should we follow her?”
Marcus stared at the black screen of his phone. When the screen lit up, his sharp features became clearer in the dark. The man’s jawline tightened, and the light shifted across his brows. Suddenly, his phone rang, and he smiled faintly.
This time, he didn’t miss her call.
