Chapter 17: We Won’t Divorce, Never
Ella tightly gripped her phone, “Can you pass the phone to your boss?”
Finn’s voice sounded a bit reluctant. “Miss Rossi, the boss drank too much tonight. He might not be in
a good condition to…”
Before he finished speaking, Marcus, who was supposed to be passed out in the back seat, suddenly
opened his eyes.
He waved his large hand and snatched the phone away. “Hmm? You’re looking for me?”
Finn froze, puzzled, as he rubbed the back of his head. How could he be so alert? He could barely
walk earlier!
Liam’s voice, still low and hoarse from the alcohol, came through the phone, carrying a magnetic,
sleepy quality.
Ella froze as the sound hit her ears. It was so mesmerizing, it sent shivers down her spine. How
could anyone’s voice sound this good?
“Ella…ly?”
Only when the name was clearly called did Ella snap back to reality. She quickly shook herself
awake and asked, “Can I see you for a moment?”
“Sure,” Marcus agreed easily. Perhaps because he was drunk, his speech was slow and carefree. “Wait, I’ll come to the hospital to see you.”
“You don’t need to rush,” Ella replied, sensing that he was still a bit drunk. It might be better to
discuss things when he was sober. No need to rush.
However, since Finn had called him boss, Ella was a little curious about what kind of company he
ran. In these tough times, even bosses had to attend to things personally… while drunk.
Ella locked her phone and sighed, “Let’s do it tomorrow. Can you set the place?”
After a slight hesitation, Ella suggested, “How about 11 AM?”

He was drunk, so he should wake up late. This time seemed like it wouldn’t interfere with his rest.
“8 AM,” Marcus answered, rubbing his forehead, seemingly trying to relieve his headache.
Ella was stunned. “8 AM?”
“Yes, 8 AM. I’ll come pick you up when you’re discharged.”
He knew she was getting discharged tomorrow?
Ella almost said it wasn’t necessary but then realized they’d have to meet anyway. So, she agreed, “Alright, 8 AM then.”
After hanging up the phone, Ella lay back on the hospital bed.
Originally, Stella was supposed to stay with her, but due to a business trip, she had to leave late to catch a flight.
Stella was a dancer who had suffered a leg injury three years ago and had to switch careers to modeling. Her life hadn’t been easy, and as she put it, “I haven’t eaten well in three years.”
Ella couldn’t rest well that night, with so much on her mind.
The next morning, she woke up at 7:30 AM.
As usual, she grabbed her phone, and a sensational news headline immediately caught her eye-“Shock! Liam, Heir to Byrne Corporation, Spotted with Beautiful Woman! Spring Night, Suspected Affair!!”
Liam? Wasn’t that him?
As she clicked on the news, sure enough, Liam’s photo appeared on her screen. He was leaning on
Natalie’s shoulder, and the two were hugging, spotted late at night in what seemed like a hotel.
As she scrolled down, more details appeared.
This morning, Liam and Natalie were seen leaving a hotel room, surrounded by reporters. They had
spent the entire night in the room, leaving only at 7 AM.

It was obvious what had happened.
Ella’s thoughts were in turmoil, her mind in chaos.
The picture showed Liam protecting Natalie’s face from the cameras.
Ella’s lips curled into a bitter smile. This confirmed it. Natalie had stolen her fiancé.
But what would her parents think when they saw this? Would they regret their previous favoritism
toward Natalie?
Her chest tightened with suffocating emotion.
Just then, the door to her room opened, and a tall, well–dressed man stepped inside.
“I’ve taken care of your discharge procedures.”
His voice was soft, like the first ray of sunlight cutting through the morning fog, clearing the mist.
“So,” Marcus’s eyes lowered, meeting hers directly, “Have you considered my proposal?”
He was talking about marriage.
Ella noticed he was wearing the same shirt from their last meeting, but this time, the button she had torn off was carefully sewn back on.
She clenched her palm, then relaxed, feeling an obvious tension.
“I can marry you, but…” Ella lowered her head, ready to grab her phone.
“I’ve already written a prenuptial agreement last night. Do you want to see it?”
Marcus: “…”
Ella cautiously observed his expression.
Seeing his furrowed brows, she asked curiously, “Did I say something wrong?”
She had thought it through last night. She had nothing left now. This man was handsome and a small

business owner.
Marrying him would be beneficial for her.
Ella decided to draft a prenuptial agreement. It wasn’t much, just covering the assets.
She would suggest an equal split, and if they divorced, she would leave with nothing.
After all, she had nothing now and depended on no one but herself.
“I’ll send it to you,” she said, swiping her screen to unlock the phone.
Before she could, Marcus suddenly leaned in close, and Ella froze as he grabbed her wrist.
“No need for the agreement.”
His body carried a faint minty scent, mixed with the freshness of aftershave–a clean, crisp aroma.
The sudden touch left her stunned. Her gaze dropped to where he was holding her wrist, and her
cheeks began to flush.
“All my assets–half of them are yours.”
He looked at her, noticing a flush that seemed to trail behind her ears.
Was it from the sun?
Marcus turned slightly, subtly blocking some of the light. “Household expenses are on me too.”
Ella blinked innocently, finding it hard to believe.
“But if we get divorced, wouldn’t that be unfair to you?”
Marcus raised an eyebrow with a hint of amusement. “Divorce?”
Ella took a deep breath and nodded.
She gently pulled her wrist out of his grasp, her voice softening.

“I’ve been to prison. Your family might care about that. If things go badly after we get married, or
if…”
Marcus‘ eyes narrowed slightly, his expression darkening for a brief moment as if something had crossed his mind.
But when Ella looked up at him, he was already smiling again.
“We won’t get divorced. As long as you’re willing, we never will.”
