Chapter 12: Our Marriage Makes Perfect Sense
Ella lowered her head, biting her lip as she secretly glanced at his expression.
She probably had only held onto him, not letting him leave, and shared a bed for the night, right?
But why was this man in her hospital room?
Could it be…
Ella raised her eyes and tentatively asked, “Are you 258?”
Marcus raised an eyebrow, sat down in a chair, crossing his long legs. His deep eyes settled on her.
“Yes, it’s me.”
His voice was cool, with the husky tone unique to the morning.
“Miss Rossi, you aren’t planning to use your life–saving grace towards me to offset the offense from
last night, are you?”
Their eyes met, and Ella felt a bit disoriented.
Ten years ago, when she saved him, he had been lying in the grass behind a pile of bushes, his wound on his chest a ghastly sight.
She never imagined, ten years later, meeting him again, he had become so… handsome and
remarkable.
Ella had always thought Liam was the most handsome man in the capital circle, but even with her
biased view, she had to admit that he couldn’t compare to the man in front of her.
Ella’s fingertips trembled slightly as she asked in a soft voice, “I… I don’t suppose we did anything,
did we?”
Marcus looked at her with a smile in his eyes. “What do you think?”

The blanket she was clutching wrinkled under her hand, and Ella, feeling conflicted, wasn’t sure if, aside from pulling off his button, she had done anything else more inappropriate.
The pressure in the air seemed to intensify, and Ella realized she might have to say something, or it would be awkward.
“I’ll buy you a new shirt to make up for it, is that okay?”
Marcus’s smile deepened. “Buy me clothes?”
Ella pursed her lips.
It didn’t seem enough… *
He seemed to be wealthy and well–off, so a shirt or two probably wasn’t much.
Ella hesitated for a moment, unable to think of anything else to offer him. The truth was, she had
nothing since she had just left the Rossi family.
After a brief silence, Ella spoke softly, “Or if you have any demands, just let me know. If I can do it, I
will…”
“Marry me.”
His words interrupted what she was about to say. Ella didn’t react immediately. “What! Did you just
say?”
Marcus leaned back in his chair, his gaze dropping to her red lips. They were small, pink, like a blooming rose, full of life.
Marcus’s throat bobbed slightly.
“I said, marry me. You can think about it.”
His tone was casual, as if he were discussing something trivial, like what to eat later.
But inside, Ella’s heart surged with a storm of emotions. She froze.
“We’ve only met once! I don’t even know your name!”

Marcus propped his finger on his forehead and lightly scratched his brow, seeming a little helpless. “Miss Rossi, you might not know, but I’m quite conservative. For 29 years, I’ve abided by the male code.”
“But last night, you slept with me. How am I supposed to explain this to my future wife?”
He paused, leaning forward slightly. He raised his eyelids and the corners of his lips moved slightly. “Besides… we didn’t just meet once. We’ve known each other for ten years, and you saved my life. Our marriage makes perfect sense.”
Ella: “…”
Is not getting married really that hard to explain?
“You probably don’t know, but I have a fiancé.”
Ella bit her lip, and suddenly remembered something. Her gaze dropped, becoming a little melancholic. “But, last night, we broke off the engagement.”
Marcus’s black hair was tousled by the wind. His gaze fell on Ella’s lowered eyelashes.
His palm clenched involuntarily, the veins on the back of his hand standing out.
The room fell into a brief silence, and the atmosphere between them became somewhat heavy.
Then, a knock came at the door.
A nurse poked her head in, holding a thermometer.
Marcus stood up, casually adjusting his tie. “Once you’ve thought about our marriage, let Finn know.”
He walked to the water dispenser, poured a cup of warm water, and placed it by Ella’s bedside.
“Take care of your health. I’ll come see you again.”
