Ethan was frantic, but visas and flights took time. Three days later, he arrived in Norway. After contacting the embassy and local police, he finally got Clara’s address.
He knocked on the apartment door, and then barged in while calling “Clara“. Then, he was stopped by the landlady.
“Who are you?”
Tm looking for Clara.” He continued, “She’s my wife. We had a misunderstanding.”
The landlady waved him off.“No one here by that name.”
“Are
you sure? Her name is Clara Anderson.”
The landlady insisted, “I have only one tenant and she’s called Faraway Anderson. You’re barking up the wrong tree.” Faraway Anderson?
Ethan was confused
Are you sure?”
The landlady, annoyed, started to close the door.

Ethan was desperate. He pulled out a wad of cash. “Consider this a tip. When did she move in? Did she contact anyone?”
The landlady accepted the money but still wouldn’t tell him too much.
He was defeated. He sat there, feeling hopeless. Days turned into weeks. Clara seemed to have vanished without a trace. He returned home, heartbroken.
He shut himself in his house, refusing to do anything. His assistant called, reporting on business. Ethan only asked, “Any news on Clara?”
“No, sir. We put up missing person posters but no leads yet.”
“Hmm.” Ethan spoke less and less, dwindling from a few words to a syllable or two. His assistant grew worried, fearing he would suicide. Then, he contacted Ethan’s parents.
