“She’s got no money, no looks, no figure-she’s nothing compared to me! What do you see in her? Are you blind?!”

Charles shut the door in her face, cutting off her shrill voice.

He never thought he’d reach a day where he was utterly fed up with Diana Schuyler.

All these years, her arrogance, selfishness, and coldness had never changed. And yet somehow, the old Charles Foster had tolerated all of it. Her flaws, in his eyes, used to feel like endearing quirks-like a spoiled kitten guarding its food.

But now?

Now, just hearing her scream, just seeing that smug, self-righteous face made his whole body tense with disgust.

Every ounce of patience he once had for her had been worn down to dust over the past six years.

He found himself missing that soft, gentle smile of Vivian’s.

The way she’d whisper in his ear, calming and warm.

He placed a hand over his chest.

Was he… really in love with her?

After a moment of silence, Charles picked up his phone.

“Mr. Chambers,” he said, “find her.”

“Where is she now? Who’s she with? And what’s the earliest flight out of Ridgewood to get to her? I want everything.

Now.”

Mr. Chambers’s voice came through gently.

“Sir, I really think… maybe you shouldn’t go looking for her.”

Charles’s eyes narrowed.

“What do you mean? You know something, don’t you?”
