Finally, he agrees to divorce, but won’t agree to walk away with nothing.]
So I pull out another document from my briefcase, slap it on his chest.
“Take a look–this is evidence of you embezzling company funds to buy Ivy property, cars, and luxury goods. Total: $13.96 million.“]
“Dax, how many years you think this’ll get you?“[]
His face turns deathly pale instantly.]]

“Sign the divorce papers, take nothing, and I’ll give you one week to pay this back. Otherwise, see you in court.“]
Finally, he signs his name on the divorce agreement.[]
I take the papers with satisfaction and walk away without looking back.]
Taking nothing, Dax loses everything under his name.[]
But that embezzled money–he has to pay it back fast.]
His first thought is those precious bros he values so much.[]
After all, whenever they went out partying, he always picked up the tab. Whenever a bro asked to borrow money for cars or houses, he generously lent hundreds of thousands.[]
So, here he is-
“Hey Marcus,” he dials the first number.]
“I’m in some trouble right now, cash is tight. Think you could pay back that million you borrowed?“]
Silence for a few seconds, then Marcus’s uncomfortable voice:]
“Dax man, it’s not that I don’t want to help, I gotta… gotta discuss it over with my wife.“]
Dax is stunned: “Wife? What fucking wife?“]
Marcus chuckles.
“Exactly, Ldon’t have a wife, so there’s nothing to discuss.“]
Then he hangs up.
Dax desperately keeps calling.[]
One call after another brings excuses, deflections, even straight–up ignoring him.]
Chapter B
All those bros who used to kiss his ass, mooch food and drinks, and enjoy his “brotherhood“-now they avoid him like the
plague.
After the last call.]
Dax stares at the gray sky, feeling nothing but irony.[]
Dejected, he goes to the mansion he bought Ivy.[]
Seeing it’s him at the door, Ivy joyfully throws her arms around him.]
“Can we get married now?“]
Her burning embrace gives Dax a sense of reality.
“Ivy, thank you for always being on my side.“]]
His voice softens as he tentatively asks: “Ivy, as long as we’re together, you’d be willing to live any kind of life, right?“||
“Of course!” Ivy answers without hesitation.[]
Dax relaxes slightly, finding some comfort.[]
“I walked away with nothing. Ember found out I embezzled company money for you and wants me to pay it back on deadline.“]]
“You need to sell the house and car under your name to help me through this crisis.“]
“Walk away with nothing? Are you insane?” Ivy shoves him away hard, her eyes full of wariness.]]
“That house and car are mine–why should I sell them?”
Dax is stunned: “Ivy, you… you said…“]
“What did I say?” Ivy drops the act completely.
“Dax, you didn’t actually think I was with you for love, did you? Ha! Dream on! Who cares about broke losers!“]
She points at his nose: “I wanted to live the good life–I’m not gonna struggle from scratch with some pauper! Get it? Now get lost!”
With that, Ivy shoves him out the door.
The door slams shut with a bang.]
Staring at the cold door, Dax has never felt so powerless.[]
Right–who would struggle from scratch with a pauper?]
He used to think he got through those tough times thanks to his bros’ support.[]
But thinking back now, all he sees in his mind is me.[]
Chapter 8
Me running business deals under the scorching sun. Me drinking glass after glass when clients were being difficult.[]
Me patting his shoulder saying: “It’s okay honey, Mom said we can sell the house to keep us going!”
“Who are the cockroaches that never die?“]]
“We’re the cockroaches that never die!!“]
The laughter seems to echo in his ears, yet it all feels like another lifetime.[]
He suddenly makes up his mind and runs toward home.[]

But when he reaches the front door, he finds the locks have been changed and a “For Sale” sign posted.]]

Turns out this home–I really don’t want it anymore.
