I SURVIVED THE WEDDING 67

I SURVIVED THE WEDDING 67

In my slumber, loud thunder rumbled outside

My phone buzzed a few times by the bed, but I was too annoyed to check and rolled over to sleep again

Suddenly, I heard the door creaking open, jolting me awake, thinking a thief had entered the house

As I sat up, Andrew’s soaked figure appeared in front of me

Rubbing my eyes, I asked, What are you doing back?”

He exhaled a sigh of relief upon seeing me there

He peeled off his drenched jacket and rushed to embrace me

Caroline, it’s thundering outside. I remembered how scared you are of thunder. So, I left the hotel and hurried back,he replied

His wet clothes brushed against my face, sending a chill that made me uncomfortable

I subtly pushed him away. Go take a shower now, or you’ll catch a cold.”

Andrew rarely smiled at me and said gently, I’ll come keep you company later.”

I could hear the water rushing in the bathroom, but my gaze was fixed out the window as lightning flashed, and I fell into deep thought

Over the last three years, I endured countless rounds of IVF, while Andrew began to leave for work early and return

latesometimes not coming home at all

At first, I thought it was just his job getting busier

Until I discovered some sexy lingerie in the closet that didn’t belong to me, along with mysteriously disappearing

condoms

Then his secretary, Bonnie, became more brazen, flaunting her love life on social media while teasing me just enough for me to notice

Now, I was just tired of it all

The irony was, that Andrew remembered that I was afraid of thunder but didn’t realize that I’d learned how weather the storms on my own during countless lonely nights

I had no idea when Andrew emerged from the shower

I had dozed off again

He lay down beside me in a bathrobe, trying to wrap his arms around me from behind. His breath against my neck

grew warm and heavy

Caroline, do you think we can have sex?”

I pushed him away, giving myself a moment to compose my thoughts, my gaze drifting down to the marks on his

neck

Did Bonnie not feed you well?I asked

Andrew froze for a moment, a flash of embarrassed anger crossing his face

Caroline, can you please stop being so unreasonable? We haven’t seen each other in days, and you’re acting like this, right off the bat? I told you, Bonnie is just my secretary, looking after my meals and daily needs. That’s her job

After a brief pause, he added, What’s the point of you throwing a fit every day?”

I calmly watched him rant, then created some space to lie back down

Let’s just sleep.I whispered

But Andrew, looking gloomy, couldn’t sleep at all

He got up and grabbed a pillow with a cold face

Here I was thinking about how you’re scared of thunder, coming to keep you company. What a fool I’ve been!”

He walked straight to the study and slammed the door

His words only made me chuckle

The last time I was scared of thunder, I huddled in a corner, redeyed, messaging Andrew, asking when he’d be back

But he didn’t reply until the next day

Come on, you’re an adult. Even kids aren’t afraid of thunder. Why are you acting weak?”

Bonnie’s pipes broke, and she couldn’t fix them. I was busy at that time.”

Tears slipped down my cheeks, mixing with my bitter laughter

I couldn’t understand why the big boss would drop everything in the middle of the night to fix a water pipe for

young secretary

Memories of the past flickered past me

I closed my eyes, thinking about what I needed to pack for tomorrow’s early flight. After all, I couldn’t afford to be

late

The next day, I woke up two hours early

I looked around the bedroom; almost everything here was bought by Andrew

Besides a few of my clothes, I hadn’t updated my wardrobe in three years

But I didn’t bother to take those either

I casually tossed a few outfits into my suitcase when suddenly, I got a call from the airline

Hello, is this Miss Caroline?”

Due to severe thunderstorms in the city, your flight has been delayed and rescheduled for three days later. Do you agree to this?”

I glanced at the torrential rain outside and sighed

I wasn’t lucky. Even leaving was thwarted by a thunderstorm

Then I called Chris back

Alright, three days later, make sure to pick me up from the airpo
