Chapter 5
The wind was strong, and I only vaguely heard Nathan say he regretted something.
When I asked again, there was no answer. That night when I got home, I saw Ethan’s new social media post.
A photo of him embracing Sophia tightly. He was officially with her now.
In my senior year of high school, I first learned about Sophia.
She was that year’s campus beauty, excellent in both academics and appearance.
Ethan had a bad reputation at school, relying mostly on his family background and looks to attract girls.
Sophia was different. All of Ethan’s usual tactics failed with her.
Even when he played the hero and saved her, she only said:
“You should focus on your studies instead.”
During the year I was chasing Ethan, he was pursuing Sophia. He used on Sophia all the same moves I’d used on him.
He and Sophia had briefly been together, but then Sophia suddenly transferred schools, and they ended there.
Ethan agreed to date me because of that. He would often brush my hair, with more regret than love in his eyes.
“Little deaf girl,” he’d call me.
At first, I couldn’t hear his nickname for me–I could only see his lips move. When I asked, Ethan wouldn’t tell me. Later, when I finally heard it clearly, I realized he’d been calling me “little deaf girl” all along.
His seemingly affectionate term wounded me countless times.
“Ethan, does my hearing problem bother you?”
Back then, he had firmly promised it wouldn’t.
I rented the apartment Nathan recommended and rushed to move my things out.
During my final move, I unexpectedly ran into Ethan. He still looked the same, immediately putting on his deep, loving act when he saw me.
“Amy, what are you doing?”
Ethan tightly gripped my suitcase while frantically typing on his phone.
I slapped his hand away. “What does it look like? I’m moving out.”
He seemed stunned that I wasn’t falling for his act anymore and froze for a few seconds. “Amy, what’s this about? Is

“Come on, aren’t you being chaidid?
A game he lost? I looked up at him and laughed only
That photo didn’t look like a game at all. Ethan was smiling happier than I dag him in years
“Ethan, stalking your ex isn’t your style,” I said.
Nathan’s hand firmly pulled my suitcase back, and the two men immediately locked eyes in hostility.
“Amy, he’s not a good person. Don’t listen to him,” Ethan said urgently.
Meanwhile, Nathan just smirked, advancing step by step.
“Ethan, what are you afraid of?” he asked, then gently took my hand. “Amy. I’m here to pick you up.”
I was stunned but followed Nathan’s lead, watching Ethan’s figure appear in the rearview mirror.
“He really needs to be taught a lesson,” Nathan muttered, taking a sharp turn that left Ethan behind.
“Amy, you’re not having second thoughts, are you?”
“Only that I didn’t dump him sooner.”
I had placed too much hope in Ethan too many times, only to be disappointed every time.
Ethan was too good an actor. The tenderness in his eyes had pulled me in too deeply.
That night, I drank quite a bit. With blurry vision, I vaguely heard Nathan ask if I wanted revenge.
I hazily remember hooking my arms around his neck and agreeing, but he said I needed to pay a fee first.
Nathan’s Adam’s apple bobbed as his gaze landed on me, full of suggestion.
“Amy,” he called softly, deliberately avoiding my right ear so I couldn’t hear or see clearly.
“Nathan,” I raised myself closer to him, but in the end, Nathan moved away.
He leaned down and kissed my forehead. “Amy, you owe me one. Consider this the interest.”
