Chapter 5
As a deep, urgent male voice rang out, the hand clutching my hair instantly released me.
Chloe took two frightened steps back, clearly terrified of the man before us.
Even Ryan looked uneasy.
I turned to face the man who had arrived.
In my memories, he had always been dignified and aloof.
After more than a decade apart, there were now strands of gray in his hair.
In front of outsiders, he was cold and imposing.
But when I was a child, he would buy me dolls and smile as he asked if I liked them.
When he was away on business and heard I was sick, he would take a red-eye flight home just to stay with me and personally cook my favorite chicken and rice soup.
And one day, when my mother took me away from him, he would send me text messages every day.
He would ask if I was doing well and transfer me a large allowance.
“Dad…”
Hearing what I called him, Chloe fell to the floor in shock.
Her hands, still wet with spilled alcohol, instinctively wiped at her dress as if trying to erase the evidence of what she had
done to me.
My father strode toward me, removing his suit jacket to drape it over my shoulders before helping me to my feet.
Without taking the time for a proper reunion, he pulled me behind him.
His expression was dark, his sharp gaze filled with a murderous edge.
“My daughter, and you dare to bully her?”
Hearing the richest man in the city declare our relationship himself, everyone present felt their legs weaken.
Some even looked ready to flee.
Ryan had yet to recover from the shock, but he still cautiously asked, “Are you sure there’s no mistake, Lena? Is he really your father?”
“You told me you were poor. You even said you had to work in a bar to pay off your debts.”
He was about to continue when my father shot him a sharp look.
That glance alone was like a death warning, and Ryan dared not utter another word.

I coughed twice, expelling the wine that had gone down the wrong way.
Then I spoke between breaths.
“Ryan, you still want to twist the truth? Pay off debts? Wasn’t it you who tricked me into paying your debts?”
“So now, do you still think I am just some penniless girl you can deceive and humiliate?”
At that moment, Chloe snapped out of her daze.
The truth was right in front of her, but she refused to believe it.
In her mind, I was just a lowly bar hostess who relied on flirting to please customers.
How could I suddenly become the wealthy daughter who could crush her underfoot?
“No, impossible! I get it now. Lena, you must have seduced the richest man and gotten him to pretend to be your father.”
“You really know how to play games. Do you call him ‘Daddy’ in bed too…”
Before she could finish, my father’s bodyguard had stepped forward at his signal.
A slap from a hand the size of a sandbag sent her sprawling on the ground.
She could not get up for a long time.
Even her childhood sweetheart, Ryan, no longer dared to help her.
My father gave a cold laugh.
“One with the last name Sutton, and one with the last name Yates, right?”
“I think your lives have been too comfortable. In a few days, you can go beg together on the streets.”
