Chapter 6
But in the next second, his arms locked around me from behind.
“Baby, please!”
His hot tears fell against my neck as his arms shook.
“Just wait a little longer. Landry Corp is almost mine. The second I have control, I’ll cancel everything
with Vanessa. You’re the only one I ever wanted to be with.”
I fought wildly, my nails drawing blood from his forearms.
“Let me go!”
I sobbed uncontrollably. “No! I hate you! You killed my dad, destroyed my mom, and ruined me!”
Jake squeezed his eyes shut, looking physically ill with guilt.
“Liv, I’m sorry. After I handed over those files, I couldn’t face to you. By the time I tracked you
you’d already been sold to that nightclub. I went looking for you immediately.”
“And those men who hurt you? They’ve all paid for it.”
My voice quavered. “What did you do?”
Jake’s laugh was cold as ice.
“Whatever they did to you, I made sure they suffered ten times worse.”
down,
“One idiot even bragged to my face about hurting you. He’s a total wreck now. Can’t even take a shit by himself.”
“Nobody who hurt you gets away with it–including my father.”
I backed away, genuinely terrified.
“Don’t look at me like that.”
He reached toward me but froze when I flinched, his hand dropping limply.

I shook my head.
“I want out. I want a divorce.”
Jake’s expression twisted into something feral,
“Divorce? Are you kidding me?”
He grabbed my wrist with bruising force.
“This marriage cost me everything. There will NEVER be a divorce.”
Each word was spat through gritted teeth.
Then his voice dropped to something disturbingly gentle.
“I risked everything getting close to your family, earning your dad’s trust. Alexander didn’t help me
at all. I genuinely wanted to marry you. I already had access to Maxwell’s secrets, but I still fought in
that underground ring for you.”
His eyes glistened with unshed tears.
“I love you. I actually, genuinely love you. I’m crazy about you–have been since day one.”
Jake smiled suddenly, a broken, unhinged expression.
“Seeing you hurt like that nearly killed me. I hate myself for it. I’ll never forgive myself.”
His forehead pressed against mine, his breath scorching against my skin, his voice almost pleading.
“When we found out about the baby… God, Liv, that was the happiest day of my life.”
His voice cracked with emotion.
“Every day I prayed you’d never remember, that we could have a fresh start–and now the worst has happened.”
Jake laughed softly, his eyes burning with absolute fixation.
“Hate me all you want. I’m not letting you go. Ever.”
“You’re mine, Liv. That’s non–negotiable.”

Chapter 6
Jake, true psychopath that he was, kept his word.
He had people watching me constantly–someone even stood guard while I showered.
But I watched and waited for seven days until I finally found a chance to escape.
Jake caught up faster than I expected.
The growl of his engine approached as I floored the gas pedal, but his driving was insanely reckless, nearly forcing me off the road multiple times.
With a bitter laugh, I abandoned the car and ran toward the guardrail.
“Stay back! One more step and I’m jumping!”
He staggered toward me, tie whipping in the wind, eyes wild with panic.
“Liv, don’t! If you jump, I swear to God I’m right behind you.”
I laughed coldly.
“The billionaire heir would throw it all away? After everything you did to get it?”
“The company’s practically mine. My brothers are almost out of the picture. I’ll rebuild Maxwell Industries for you, better than before!”
I countered: “Can you bring my father back?”
“Liv, please don’t do this.”
“Jake, I’m so tired–just completely drained. Let’s end this nightmare.”
He shouted desperately: “What about your mother?!”
“Your mother isn’t dead! She’s living peacefully in my private care facility.”
