The air felt like it had been completely sucked out.[]
Every sneer, every mocking expression froze solid on their faces.[]
Tina’s smug smile turned to stone.
“What… what did you just say?”
She whirled on her assistant, voice cracking with hysteria.[]
“Who? Who did you call a designer?!”
The assistant flinched at Tina’s sharp tone, face going pale.
She frantically bent down to gather the scattered papers while stammering apologies, voice shaking with panic.]
“Sorry, I’m so sorry, Designer Lane! I didn’t know you were dining here…“[]
“I didn’t mean to disturb you! I’ll clean this up right away.”
“Designer Lane?”
The classmate who’d just been mocking me about “marrying old men looked like his eyes might pop out of his skull.]
He repeated the title in complete bewilderment.[]
“Which Designer Lane?”
The assistant paused in collecting papers, glancing up at Tina in confusion before looking carefully at me.]]
“The one Ms. Clarke has been trying so hard to collaborate with–Lumina’s North America Director and Head Designer, Eileen Lane, Ms. Savannah.”
BOOM!
That sentence hit like a lightning bolt in the dead silent room.]
Everyone’s face changed instantly.[]
Jessica, who’d been dissecting my life with such superiority, now looked like she could fit an entire egg in her gaping mouth.]
Everyone’s tune changed on a dime.
From disgust and dismissal to suddenly desperate ass kissing[]
“Oh my God! Savannah… I mean, Designer Lane! You’re Lumina’s head designer?r“]]
“Holy slut! I always said Savannah… Designer Lane was valedictorian material back in school! Such refined tastel I knew you
were destined for greatness!“]
“Incredible! Head designer at a top international brand! Now that’s real talent!“]
“Designer Lane, that outfit is understated luxury at its finest! International designers just have that touch!”
“Designer Lane, remember me? Little Mike who sat behind you in high schooll You’re making all us old classmates so proud“]
The praise was even more nauseating than what they’d been feeding Tina earlier.]
They all scrambled to get close to me, completely forgetting how they’d been trashing me and my “family” just minutes before.
Tina’s face went beyond ugly–it was catastrophic
She’d just suggested I take a “janitor” position, and now she looked like the world’s biggest joke.
And Dylan.
He snapped out of his initial shock, jaw still tight, but finally spoke his first words to me.[]
“Savannah, I never imagined you’d still be so… exceptional.“]
His new girlfriend Tina might as well have been invisible to him now.[]
I watched this whole dramatic scene unfold.
Listened to all the fake praise.[]
It just felt more and more pathetic and boring by the second
That’s when this bitter voice cut through–dripping with jealousy and malice.[]
Jessica.
“So what if you’re some hotshot designer now?”
“Savannah, your bloodsucker parents are notorious! They caused that massive scene back in school, totally humiliated us all! Now that you’re successful, think they’ll leave you alone? I bet they’ve already sniffed out your success and come crawling back“]
“No matter how much you make, you’ll never fill those bottomless pits! Your designer position probably won’t last long anyway!”
Her words hit like poison darts, aimed straight at my most vulnerable spot.
