Chapter 208
Ansley is sitting in the living room when I come down to make breakfast. She stands up as I scared the shit out of her
“Hey,” I greet her. She tenses up tightly when I go over to hug her. She relaxes a little and lightly taps my back. She always smells so good. “You okay?”
“Are you okay?” she takes my hand tightly. “Nathan should never have left you alone.”
“I’m okay. Thank you for what you did to my car. It saved us.”
“I’ll have it fixed immediately,” she nods.
“I’m going to make breakfast. Join me. Have you eaten? Want some coffee?”
“Okay,” she nods nervously. “How are you? How is the baby?”
Maybe it’s because she tried to kill me when we first met, but she’s always so iffy around me. It’s kind of cute. I set the big coffee maker because I have no idea who else is here.
“I am surprisingly feeling better,” I admit. “I was a mess last night. I couldn’t calm down for the life of me. The baby is fine. Resilient. I need to stop stressing her out so badly.”
“Yes, I told Nathan it wasn’t a good idea for you to be alone at the pack. He dismissed me and said you had it.”
“I did,” I smirk. “I do. I wasn’t expecting something as public as it was. I mean, I was picking the kids up from school.”
I’ve never noticed that her eyes are a few shades lighter than Knight’s. They flash between green and red. She links her fingers together and squeezes until her fingers begin to turn white. I set the eggs down and place my hand over hers. She jumps and looks up at me like she’s been caught doing something wrong.
“Sorry,” she growls.
“I’m okay. The kids are fine.” I try to reassure her. It’s weird, but sometimes I swear it’s Knight near me when she’s around.
“It shouldn’t have happened in the first place, Phoebe.” She sighs and pulls away.
“It would have happened even if Knight had been there. I know why you’re here.”
“Good. Knight called me for this reason. I wanted to do this from the start. He asked me to let you do this on your own. We can’t risk you like this, Phoebe. Packs aren’t rogues. Change is not something that happens without resistance.”
“I understand, but I know you run a huge pack, Your dad talks about you like you’re his tiny alpha goddess, and I know him. I know he’s really hard on you. I would have asked for help, but we didn’t exactly have a great start.”
She looks away, almost annoyed, and I’m not sure if it’s with me or herself. Knight walks in with the girls before she can say anything else.
“Morning, Mommy,” Ayrie says and comes over to hug my leg.
“Good morning, Phoebe,” Melody follows and does the same while yawning big.
“We get cereals?” Ayrie asks.

“You don’t want breakfast?” I ask them. The two of them shake their head
“Cereal, please,” Melody grins.
“Okay, dining room. I’ll be right there,” I motion to the double doors. Ayrie holds it open for Melody.
“Aizen is in the shower. There was an incident between him and Ayrie,” he says, looking between me and his sister. “Good morning, Ansley”
“What?” she growls at him and stands up to leave.
“Hey, don’t be like that. We have to talk,” I remind them. Her eyes shoot to his.
“You told her?” she growls.
“What are you talking about?” he shakes his head. “She’s talking about the pack.”
“What are you talking about?” I ask, looking between them. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing,” she says, sitting back down.
“Is everything okay?” I ask.
“I’m good,” Knight says and takes my hand. “You finally slept through the night. How are you feeling?”
“Better. I think being here in general makes me feel better,” I admit.
“Good,” he kisses my cheek.
“Coffee is in the pot already. Sit,” I say, grabbing a couple of bowls. “Did they fight again?”
“They’ve been communicating through their link,” he says.
“I know. For a while now. They have access to me as well.“,
“Aizen too?”
“Yeah, we’ve all been practicing to shut it on and off. What happened?”
“He was panicking last night, and she made him go to sleep.”
“What? She can do that?” I laugh. “Is that bad? Can he do it?”
“It means she’s dominant over him. Nathan thought it was funny doing it to me when we were kids. It means she’s mentally stronger than he is, and no. He can’t.”
“I forget you guys are twins,” I smile, pouring the milk over the cereal. “Be right back.”
I take the girls their cereal and pause as I head back to the kitchen. Knight has repeatedly told me that the twins might have to share a mate. Vy and Vince might share a mate when they find theirs. Her reaction to us is always the same. Her demeanor around me is always off. They would have told me, right?
I walk into the kitchen to see Knight at the counter preparing three coffee mugs. With him here, Ansley doesn’t even want to look up at me. I decide to drop it for now, but the question is lingering right on the tip of my tongue. I would know, wouldn’t I? Midnight

Ans is the first to sigh heavily. Knight brings over two mugs and hands one to her and the other to me before going back for his own. He appears to be expecting this.
“Angel, you’re not going to like what’s going to happen,” he says, sitting beside her. “Ansley and I don’t agree on many things, but this is one we’re going to work on together.”
“The Knightly way,” Ansley adds.
“I know. I know I’ve been very adamant about not using violence for this. I thought that if we took the high road on all of it, they would come willingly. For a little while, I thought it was working. I wanted to so badly.”
“I know you did,” Knight rubs my back.
“The kids were in the car with me. There were other kids there–parents who could have gotten hurt. Teachers. I can’t just let shit like that happen. I can’t call you when things get bad. I want to help.
“I know that at first I didn’t want this. I told you that I didn’t care, but now that I’m here and that I’ve been learning the basics, I want to do this. It’s weird, but it feels like I’m finally where I’m supposed to be. If that makes sense.”
“It makes perfect sense,” she nods. “I think after this, she’s going to need proper training. We can have a couple of proper tutors come in from England.”
“If you do this, you’re going to have to join the pack, Angel. Officially, as their alpha. You will have to bear the rune. We can make her do the study portion of the test while she’s pregnant,” Knight scratches the back of his ear. “The rest can wait.”
“I was kind of hoping she’d hate it.” She smirks. “You win this round, Nate.”
