“Jonas really gave you a Hello Kitty private jet?” I ask Perry as we walk through the construction site.
“Yeah,” she grins and shakes her head. “It is the coolest thing ever. The walls and chairs on the inside are plush. I still can’t believe he did that. I complained about having to wait for Roy to fly one time, and he said, ‘You’re right. You shouldn’t be waiting.”
“He is spoiling the hell out of you, and here I am arguing with Knight about an ex,” I scoff.
“Still?”
“He apologized, but I had to tell him why he should,” I roll my eyes.
“You’re right. He’s an idiot, but you’re going to have to tell him when he’s doing something wrong. Me too, actually,” she says, scratching her head.
“What do you mean?”
“Phoebs, we were raised by sociopaths. We made it worse when we joined the syndicate. Right and wrong are subjective for people in our position. We seek control, and we want to see how much more we can have. It’s who we are.
“People like Amy don’t mean shit. We might mean something to them, but it’s likely we barely remember the interaction. He’s Knightly fucking Blake. When he started off, after leaving the ranch, the only time he was sober was when he went out on missions or had intense training.
“It’s not an excuse for what he did. As a girl, I know that was hella scummy of him. I had the same thing happen with Jonas before we got married. One of his stupid little hookups kept telling me I wasn’t worth shit.”
“What did you do?”
“I killed her. Walked down the aisle with her blood on my stilettos,” she grins widely, showing me her lycan fangs.
“You know, for someone in therapy, you seem to suggest murder a whole lot,” I laugh. Nervously.
“That’s what I’m saying. I learned to be who I am from him and Violetta. I had the personality of a gamer and a weeb when I met him. That should tell you everything you need to know.”
“You still have the personality of a gamer and a weeb. Your pop culture references are pretty cool.” I admit. She turns bright red and can’t meet my eyes. “Oh, and let’s not forget you’re a Hello Kitty girl. I’ve seen your collection of toys all over your mansion.”
“You have no idea,” she grins, getting redder.

“BRB,” she says and skips over to him. A snort makes me look back. Knight is walking into the building with Ayrie in tow.
“Where’s Mel?“Task.
“She’s with the big uncle,” Ayrie sighs.
“What’s wrong?”
“She is going to leave and come on Monday,” she rolls her eyes.
“That’s two days. You’ll survive.”
“A peine,” she whispers.

Knight laughs and then shakes it off when he sees me glare at him.
“Where is Aizen?”
“With Uncle Elliot. They’re playing with Jason and Mr. Happy,” she points back the way they came.
“Cool. What are you two up to?”
“I want to play Hello Kitty Island Adventure with Aunty on my computer, please.”
“Oh, yes, please.” Perry pops up next to me. “You can hang out with-” she motions Knight dismissively. “This thing. I can watch Tiny Knightly for a while.
“Me? That’s me?” Ayrie beams.
“Yes, unfortunately,” Perry grins. Knight shoves her head, and the two of them engage in a smacking competition. I growl at the two of them, making
Ayrie giggle.
“Is funny when is not me,” she laughs.
“Get out of here,” Knight glares at Perry. She scoops Ayrie up and pushes her up. Ayrie doesn’t hesitate to climb onto her shoulders.
“I got Hangyodon, Auntie. I’ve been busy with my new books.”
“I’ve been busy with work. I don’t have him yet, so you’re going to have to help me.” Perry sighs.
“Was the last time we played where you left off?”
“Yeah,”
“Cool, I like that part,” she wiggles and then waves back at us. “Bye, Mommy. Bye, Daddy.”
“Hope she doesn’t develop a need for the toys like her.” Knight sighs.
“I saw the Christmas gift your dad got her. She’s not the only one we need to worry about. They’re all corrupting her.”
“With the way she likes to talk shit, she doesn’t need anyone’s help,” he laughs and looks around. That is straight facts. Ayrie loves roasting people. “What are you doing in here?”
“Perry was supposed to give me a tour, but Ayrie said Hello Kitty, and she forgot. Want to go into town? They have these little pancake balls filled with Nutella. I really need some like right now.”
“Let’s go,” he says, taking my hand. “Let me get my keys.”
“I got mine.” I take them out of my pocket. “I was going to take Perry so she gets out of the house while she’s here.” I pull them back when he reaches for them. “Ah. I’ll drive.”
“You don’t have to.”
“I want to. I haven’t in a while, If you spoil me the way Jonas does Perry, I will kick you,” I warn him. He laughs at my stupid threat.
“You missed her,” he says once we leave the house
“Yeah, it’s weird to think that I have siblings. The more I get to know them, the more attached I get. It’s never happened to me before. I always thought the only unconditional love I’d have would be for the twins. Everyone else comes and goes.”
“You can go see her whenever you want, you know that, right?”
“I do not have the confidence to just pop up on her the way she does,” we both laugh. “I was surprised she asked this time.

“I talked to her about boundaries. She flashed me the contract for the new security system installation when she got here.”
“Let her pop in. I don’t mind, and the kids love her. More time for us. Can you see if the twins emptied the coins? We have meters,”
“You’re the alpha,” he scoffs, reaching for the glove compartment.
“Okay, and if I want to pay for the meter, I will. This and the arcade are all they’re good for. Let them exist.”
“You are pro–existence. I got it,” he smirks. “I wanted to thank you.”
“What for?” I ask and reach into my door’s pocket. “Hey, I have an emergency marker for you.”
“A marker? For what?”
“Autographs,” I hand it over. He smiles down at the marker. “It’s just a marker.”
“I thanked you for whatever you said to Eloise. She apologized and offered us a pretty sweet weapons contract with Lockwood Co.”
“Umm, you’re welcome?” I say unsurely.
“For law enforcement. The pack is severely lacking and outdated,” he shrugs. “It’s a good thing for us. With the new security system, it’ll be easier to keep track of them. It opens up a new work opportunity and better formations to cover the territory the way it should be. We are expecting a thirty–six percent drop in crime.”
“Really? So, my sister is going to be creeping on the entire pack?” I laugh.
“Yup,” he laughs.
“I don’t understand where she finds the time. I can barely sneak peeks at the twins‘ training.”
“Perry now has a wall of monitors that change footage every two minutes. The Lycans don’t get away with shit. Yeah, Jonas spoils the shit out of her, but she deserves it. I always wondered if there was something other than code and murder that could keep her attention. Turns out, it’s owning an entire
race.”
“You say that like they’re her pets,” I laugh.
“Trust me, Angel,” he shakes his head. “They are.”
