Chapter 188
Mr. Knightly keeps his eyes on me, and for the first time since I’ve met him, I hold his gaze, letting Midnight show him she’s not afraid. He chose a very inoppertune time to try and make me feel guilty about getting along with my mother’s best friend and wanting to respect her wishes.
His nose flares, and he’s the first to look away. The others shift uncomfortably in their seats. Okay, so maybe I rely on Allison more than I should,d and she gets away with hella stuff, but this is her pack. Talking to her about the changes is different from simply firing her or sending her away, even if she is
going to receive a higher salary for the position.
“I didn’t ask you all to come here to lecture me about my Beta. Eloise Lockwood, how does this work because I have a copy of the pack laws and they
dictate that I kill her. I don’t want to do that.”
“She has to give something up in exchange,” Derek says.
“Just like that? I say, Give me this and she hands it over? Isn’t that blackmail?”
“Yes,” Violetta laughs. Vincent sighs.
“Do you not agree?” I ask him.
“It doesn’t matter if I agree or not. This is how our system works now,” he shrugs.
“How did it work before?”
“Both alphas would fight to the death. The victor took both lands,” Mr. Knightly answers.
“I can take her,” Violetta says with confidence. “If that’s what you want, Brother.”
“You’re not the one she wronged.”
“You want me to fight for your company back?” I ask.
“You wouldn’t last five minutes in a closed space with Eloise, Vincent. You’re a packwolf. There’s nothing feral about you,” Knight dismisses him. “What
we need is to talk to Tec. He’s an asshole and a lot of people know that Nelson is your father now. He’s going to want to take this to trial.”
“Under what premise? All the evidence shows her fuck up,” Mr. Knightly shakes his head. “I can have a convoy intercept him at the airport. We can give him the same treatment he gave Nelson when he found the monster in our dungeon. That pussy has come far enough.”
“Aye,” Violetta, Ren, and Vince say at the same time.
“No,” I roll my eyes, but Midnight is on his team. She purrs inside of me so they know she’s on board.
“See, Midnight and I know what needs to happen,” he smirks.
“We’re not doing that. It would make us just like him. What I can do is give him the villa we haven’t remodeled for him and his team.”
“I second that, Alpha Rizen,” Ren says from behind me. “I can give the order.”
“Yes, please.” I nod.
“So that’s it? We don’t make them feel wanted?” Mr. Knightly scoffs.
“And we take Wolfe Tech back,” Violetta adds.
“Beats letting me string her up so the people can stone her to death,” Derek says. The others laugh.
“What did she do to you guysfor you all to hate her? Knight is friends with her,” I point out.
“Nothing. We hate her dad. Knight is friends with her because he’s Knight. Everyone wants to be friends with him, even if they have to bite their tongue. lot of people do,” Violetta explains. “His dad is both feared and respected, unlike hers.”
“This is all true,” Mr. Knightly agrees.
“What I want to know is why you two are being so cold to one another,” she looks up at Knight because she knows he’ll be the one to crack first.
“Fuck off,” he growls at her. The guys all sit back to watch everything unfold.
“Sure, let me put you on speaker,” she says, and reaches for her glasses. She places her phone on the coffee table.
“What’s up, guys? Thanks for inviting me to your party,” Perry growls sarcastically.
“We never invite you to anything. You always invite yourself,” Knight scoffs.
“I didn’t call because I already have someone who is suggesting murder,” I cross my arms over my chest.
“Are you going to let me install my security system now?” she asks, in her cute I told you so tone.
“Yes,” I answer and look over Knight, who had convinced me not to let her in here. “The nice one with the laser warning.”
“Yes,” she squeals excitedly. “We’ll be in there in the morning.”
“There are two of them? She’s a Nelson?” Vincent asks, staring at me as if he were seeing me again for the first time.
“What’s wrong with that?” Derek asks.
“There’s nothing wrong with it. I just happen to know that the other one is fucking crazy,” they all laugh.
“Knight brought Amy to be my shadow,” I say. The room gets eerily silent.
“Knight, what the fuck, bro?” Violetta breaks the silence.
“He said, and I quote: She is the best assassin out on the field,” I add.
“Bro,” Perry says quietly and snickers.
“And he’s upset because the alpha from across the way is my ex,” I conclude. Derek tries so hard not to laugh but ends up snorting insanely loud before bursting into laughter.
“Fuck, dude. Who is up for a drink? I am going to need one before Tec Lockwood gets here. The guy preaches new age like an old timer, and I would look the other way if something happened to him while he was here.” he stands.
“I just got a new bottle of Pappy Van Winkle,” Mr. Knightly snaps his fingers. “In my villa. Have fun, ladies,” he says, bending over the couch to wrap his arm around Knight. He slaps him on the chest a couple of times and smiles at me. “I’d kill him if you asked. We already have two perfect heirs. Let’s go, Son. You’re an idiot.”
“Dead ass,” Perry agrees.
Knight growls lowly and stands up. As he exits the room, Violetta pulls some kind of knife from inside her coat. She throws it with a quick flick of her wrist from where she’s sitting on the couch. I look back and see it’s embedded in the door frame just inches from his face.
“If you ever say that again, I will gift a part of Amythist’s body to Phoebe every Valentine’s Day so that she can get mad at you all over again. She’s Nelson’s sister. I have a feeling that she doesn’t let the little things go either. Not really,” she growls. Knight glances back at me with an expression that says, ‘You see what you’ve caused.‘
“I told you I was going to tell her,” I turn back. “You should have a drink for both of us.”
