I’m a little stunned at the moment. All I can do is stare up at him because holy shit. What is even happening right now? Never in my entire career of being obsessed with this guy could I have ever guessed that he would get hotter than he already is, but here we are. Lately, I catch myself just staring at him, and I know he knows because he never stops smiling. Cheeky fuck.
“Okay, the second option it is,” he grins.
“No,” I stop him from coming down. “Just give me a second.”
I take a deep breath and stare up at him a little longer, just taking in the scene. When I get my stupid heart to stop racing, I finally take the steps one at a time. When I’m standing toe–to–toe with him, he smiles and offers me the roses.
“Hi,” he says softly.
“Hey,” I take them. “These are beautiful. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Are you hungry?”
“Very.” I nod, and on cue, my stomach lets out a loud growl.
Even Midnight feels that embarrassment. He takes my hand and leads me inside. The rose petals lead us to the dining room, where two guards are waiting for us. I look up at him questioningly as the woman comes and takes my roses.
“Makrus is a professional chef. That’s his mate, Constance,” he explains.
“Hello.” I wave at them awkwardly.
“My Queen,” they both bow and excuse themselves into the kitchen.
“What is going on?” I ask when he pulls out a chair for me. I take a seat and watch him go around to get a couple of wine glasses. He sets one down front of me and pours me a drink.
“We’re celebrating.”
“What are we celebrating?” I ask when he sits.
“A few things actually.” he takes a drink of his wine and turns to look at me.
I’ve never felt the intensity of his gaze like I do now. I can always tell when he’s looking at me, but right now, I feel the warmth of it, and it’s a bit unsettling. I don’t know why I feel like prey all of a sudden.
“You’re making me nervous.” I laugh nervously. I reach for the wine and take a drink
“It was approved,” he clears his throat.
“I’m sorry? What was?”
“Your alliance settlement. Savage approved it this morning, and your pack will be the first to participate. He even met my budget price for the construction of the villas where our rogues will be staying.
“Allison held a meeting this morning and proposed it to the pack elders. Because they want you to start feeling more at home, they all agreed to it. They want you to know that they want to welcome you home any way they can.”
“You already pitched it?” I ask, not understanding. “When?”
“I didn’t have to. I sent a copy to your brother when we got home after the event. He loved the reaction everyone had to our debut and even laughed at our hit at his media team. He asked me if I was the one who had written it, and I told him that it was all you that we would be presenting it together at the

“I don’t know what to say.” I finish the wine in my glass.
I definitely thought there was going to be some pushback with this because of the way we’ve been treated since we became official rogues. I sit back feeling like a huge weight has just dropped on my chest.
“Hey,” he reaches out to take my hand. “This is good news. It’s a huge step for us.”
“I know. I just-” I shrug. “It’s a lot. I didn’t think it would work. I’d been working on that thing since I found it, and I don’t know. I guess I didn’t think I did a good enough job for it just to be approved that way. I expected a fight, and now that it’s here. I feel like if anything goes wrong, it’ll be my fault.”
“Yeah,” he sighs. “It’s something that we’re always going to have to carry with us, Angel. We’re in charge of a lot of people, and there are things that will go wrong no matter what our intention is. That’s how it works. This is a huge step for all rogues.

“All we can do is make sure that we try to do right by our new laws and ensure that the transition goes as smoothly as possible. I’ve been working with the soldiers and the betas.
