Chapter 9
After a few days of adjusting to life in New Zealand, today was my son’s first day of school.
I woke up early and packed his backpack for him.
I watched him finish the breakfast I made.
Then I saw him off as he got on the school bus.
It was also my first day at work.
Ever since I met Liam on the plane, we had kept in touch.
He was the one who recommended me to his company.
I started as an assistant to the general manager.
It wasn’t until I arrived at the office that I realized Liam was the general manager.
“Back in school, we worked side by side on group projects.”
“Now we work side by side, aiming to get rich overnight.”
Liam was just like his name.
Bright and warm, always giving off a sense of sunshine.
He told me I was like the moon in his eyes.
Cold and serene.
Even though he was the sun, he seemed dim in front of me.
“I don’t dare dream of getting rich overnight.”
“Sticking with you, at least I’ll be able to live comfortably, right?”
It was a teasing remark, but to my surprise, Liam blushed.
He quickly looked away, avoiding my gaze.
In the end, he practically fled from his own office.
But this was his office.
All day, whenever he saw me, it looked like he’d seen a ghost.
Finally, before the end of the workday, I brought him the report for his signature.
Only then did he mumble quietly.

Chapter 9
“Serena, don’t you think the sun and the moon are a perfect match?”
His voice was so soft I almost couldn’t hear him.
I blinked, confused, and said, “Huh?”
He grabbed his car keys and fled once again.
I wasn’t a child anymore.
I knew exactly what he meant.
Maybe I just needed more time.
After ending a relationship, I wanted to give myself a break.
I still had plenty of time to experience a new life.
Just as I stepped out of the office after work,
a familiar voice suddenly called out to me.
“Serena.”
I turned awkwardly, and sure enough, it was Declan.
It had only been a month, but he looked older.
His clothes were wrinkled, and his chin was covered in thick stubble.
Despite his disheveled appearance, he still stood out in a crowd.
That was how I was once drawn to him.
No one knew that after graduation, I turned down offers from several big companies.
I only went to interview at his small startup.
He was a year ahead of me in school.
We first met at a welcome event.
To me, it felt like love at first sight.
And even though Liam, from my year, was outstanding,
and had his own unspoken crush,
I never cared.
I said I didn’t want to be in a relationship,
but the truth was, I had someone I could never have.

And once I fell for him, no one else could fit into my heart.
“Can we talk?”
His face only showed humility now.
The arrogant expression he used to wear was gone.
“Sure.”
Once I agreed, Declan’s eyes lit up.
We sat down in a café.
When it was time to order, for the first time, he remembered my preference.
“Milk, no sugar.”
It was almost laughable.
He knew what I liked,
yet in our eight years of marriage, he never once remembered.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to remember,
but because he probably didn’t think I was worth it.
Or maybe he just did it on purpose.
“As for the divorce, I’m sure my lawyer has already contacted you.”
“Since you’re here, if you want to sign now, we don’t even need to bother the court.”
When I said that, the spark in his eyes immediately dimmed.
But to me, there was nothing left to discuss with him, except the divorce.
“I’m not going to divorce you.”
“I came here today because I want you and Jasper to come back with me.”
