Chapter 26 – Business Meeting With Exes
Lily’s Pov
“Lily, what are you doing here?” Jacob asked, standing up, his eyes widening in surprise.
Peter seemed to have snapped out of his drunken haze from yesterday but he still looked pathetic.
“Did you feel sorry about yesterday night and came to find us? I promise we don’t mind what happened yesterday, me and Jacob aren’t even upset as long as you come home with us,” Peter said, his eyes shining with hope.
I remembered this line vividly from fifteen years ago. Peter had this same hopeful look in his
young eyes.
“Will you come home with us, Lily? Please be our sister. Jacob and I don’t mind, we aren’t even going to be upset with you.”
That day I had been so willing not to kill the hopeful look in his innocent eyes. Now, I just wanted to squash it, watch it dim and fade slowly.
“Oh sweet Peter, I want to come home with you but it’s such a shame you and your brother are pathetic assholes,” I stated, laughing.
I plopped down on my chair and placed my legs on my desk as I stared at them.
“You don’t have to be so mean to him all the time, Lily, you know Peter is so sensitive,” Jacot snapped.
I scoffed, “How’s that my problem? Why isn’t Nadine looking after him if he’s such a baby? I’m sure she can do a beautiful job after all she’s raising your daughter, Jacob. Or wait, wasn’t it Peter’s child? Oh, I don’t know, I’ve lost track of all your lies.”
Jacob sighed, “Listen, Lily, I know we’ve hurt you but please can we not do this right now. We’ve got a meeting and the CEO will be here soon. I don’t want you sitting in her chair.”
I shook my head, “How dumb can you be, Jacob? Take a look at the nameplate, I’m the CEO. I’m the one you’re meeting.”
Jacob leaned forward, eyes narrowing. Then his face blanched.
“Holy shit.”
Peter followed his gaze. “Shit, her last name used to be Hart… How could we forget that?!”
Written boldly in caps on a gold nameplate was my name, ‘LILY HART, CEO’
I relaxed on the recliner chair and smirked, “You forgot because you were assholes who thought my entire world revolves around you both and I have nothing else going for myself. And for a while that was true, until I found out your true nature and realized I was too good for you guys. None of you deserved me.”
Jacob and Peter were speechless as they stared at me. I knew exactly what they were thinking. They’ve been unable to get through to me ever since they arrived in Washington so what’s the possibility they’d be able to get me to sign a contract with them and they were damn right I wasn’t going to do business with them.
“Get out!” I stated calmly.
The boys looked shocked. Maybe they hadn’t expected this after all.
“Lily, you can’t do this to us,” Peter suddenly said.
“Yeah! We took care of you for fifteen years, you owe us!” Jacob added.
I scoffed, “You two have a lot of nerve coming into my office and telling me what I can and can’t do? After everything you both put me through you claim that you took care of me?! How dare you?!”
The slap hit them before I realized my hands were already moving. Somehow I’d managed to slap Jacob and Peter without breaking a sweat.
Peter suddenly went down on his knees and started crying.
“You’ve got to help us, Lily, our company is broke!” he cried.
chuckled, “How can you be broke when you’re married to Nadine Grey?”
They lost a huge project recently and it placed a dent on their finances plus Nadine doesn’t vant to support our company anymore because Jacob wants to divorce her for torturing you in ail,” Peter explained, still sobbing.
Jacob sighed, “Please, Lily, stop torturing Peter. You’ve been torturing him ever since you left us Please have mercy. He’s telling the truth, save our company.”
scoffed, “I don’t care if your company folds and you guys become broke. It will only make me appier than I already am.”
Please, Lily, save us. I’ll do anything at this point,” Jacob begged, “I know you still love me ou’re just hurt but I will spend the rest of my life making it up to him.”
Cuddenly a thought occurred to me and I smirked.
You know, maybe there’s something you can do that will make me help you,” I said.
acob turned to me happily, “Anything, I’ll do anything at all.”
laughed, “Firstly, lick my shoes and then I’ll give you your next task.”
